I really needed to read this thread. I'm a HotS player (but still new to MOBAs) and I pull Dota up from time to time and then when it comes time to solo queue I just dip out. People can be *******s sometimes, haha.

You don't need to worry much about pub cause many times people are even worse than bots. bots at least know runes and wards exist and I'm the guy who have been playing against bots with DotA 1 and 2 for about 10 years.
Give it time and love and suddenly you realize you are dominating pubs
