I've been playing pubs lately, like apparently everyone, and I've noticed some things.
Back when I first came to this site, Dota had not yet had any int carries that defaulted to the safelane, that's why I made my favorite custom hero, Cosmic Crawler, to fill that quota.

But now, I think we're seeing an actual shift of a few Int carry heroes from the mid lane into the safelane. I mean, we still have Tinker and Invoker running mid with the intention of farming that lane, but a few others seem to have caught my eye. I tried these three traditional midlane int carries in the safelane, though not in many games (the opportunity doesn't come up that often, since people are doing quests).

Outworld Devourer. If PA got buffed directly and nerfed by items, OD got nerfed directly and buffed by items. Due to high much higher mana requirements as well as a nerf to the INT steal to his orb, he is no longer a viable mid. I've tried him safelane in a few games however, if you get a Midas to balance out his very noticeable level dependence, he can still be quite strong, since his ability to devastate fights as they go on (especially against Slark and teams that are reliant on str heroes) is almost unmatched. Hurricane Pike gives him good stats on a mobility item so he doesn't need blink anymore, and Bloodthorn finally gives him a way to deal with miss chance heroes. The bonus 12% damage he gains from int at the end of the game (~30 more pure damage a hit) is a nice bonus too. He could still use some buffs, but his late game is really quite wicked in return for the trade to his midgame from last patch.
Test Game

Storm Spirit. I've seen so many people play this guy mid and fail this patch. The margin of error is too low now, a couple of deaths and you can't do anything, since he can't farm jungle as fast as before, and him getting a bloodstone doesn't reduce the gold he loses on death. I think when it comes to midlaners, Storm is just getting too dangerous. However, safelane Storm looks pretty strong, with the Bloodstone buff, being among the best Bloodthorn carriers, and with the addition of his Aghs (in the games I tested it in, my friend was on the Storm, he always got it last) his teamfighting can be really strong too. Since this meta has less disables and nukes than the last one, Storm can really be a menace if he doesn't fall below 10 charges on the Bloodstone.
Test Game A, Test Game B

Leshrac: This guy's mid just is not strong enough. 43 damage on hit and 50 on lightning level 1 is not enough to last hit anything, so he was really hard to play last patch, especially against all the burst damage. But now, with the Bloodstone buff, Leshrac seems quite powerful for any early to mid game oriented drafts as your safelaner (unless they picked Lifestealer). Due to his huge innate CC and damage, if you draft heroes that help him survive, I think he has potential to be quite the powerful carry again. Might be best deathballer carry, not sure.
Test Game (I'm not too confident in this one, the enemy draft was just too greedy, but I think he was the best Pos 1 hero for dealing with that particular team)

Other heroes to consider but have not tried: Silencer

Anyway, what do you think about moving these heroes "default" laning to safelane? Should it be something we encourage or not? And once they're there, do you think they are viable safelaners or are they just crushed under the heel of meta safelaners like LS, Jugg, Slark, and Sven?
