Introduction

________________________________________________________________________________________
It had been a brawl to remember. There stood Ymir, the Tusk, the Terror from the Barrier, the Snowball from Cobalt, the only fighter to have bested the Bristled Bruiser in a fair fight, and now the last man standing in Wolfsden Tavern. What started as a simple bar bet of supremacy ended with four regulars, a blacksmith, and six of the Frost Brigade's best soldiers writhing against the shards and splinters of almost every bottle, mug, and chair in the building. The Tusk boasted and toasted his victory as he emptied his brew.

No sooner had the defeated regained consciousness than the cries for double-or-nothing rang out. The Tusk was pleased at the prospect, but none could think of a bet bigger than the one he just conquered. Horrified at the damage to his tavern and desperate to avoid another brawl, the barkeep had an idea. As skilled as he was, Ymir had never taken part in a real battle, never tested himself against the indiscriminate death and chaos of war. He proposed a wager to the fighter: seek out the biggest battle he could find, survive, and win it for whichever side he chose. The stakes? The next round of drinks.

Tusk is a good hero for ganking and initiating fights. He's fun to play and not very difficult. He can be a game changer, in a positive way, but also in a negative way.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Good ganker
  • Good initiator
  • Good base armor
  • Good movement speed
  • Strong at any stage of the game
  • Free huge critical
  • Free initiation tool for team

Cons
  • Low mana pool
  • Item dependent
  • Can't do much by himself
  • Can ruin his team using Snowball (trolling)
  • Level dependent in a way.

When to pick:

You should pick Tuskarr when you want to have a little fun and don't worry about losing. Also, when your team needs some damage and initiation.

Skill and Item build

Note: I only explain "My Own Build", not the Vanilla and Trilane build.

Skill Build:

Level 1 - Snowball
Level 2 - Ice Shards
Level 3 - Ice Shards
Level 4 - Snowball
Level 5 - Ice Shards
Level 6 - Walrus Punch
Level 7 - Ice Shards
Level 8 - Snowball
Level 9 - Snowball
Level 10 - Frozen Sigil
Level 11 - Walrus Punch
Level 12 - Frozen Sigil
Level 13 - Frozen Sigil
Level 14 - Frozen Sigil
Level 15 - Stats
Level 16 - Walrus Punch
Level 17 to 25 - Stats

I like to max first Ice Shards and Snowball, because they are dealing some good damage and a fine disable.

I don't level up Frozen Sigil until level 10, because I don't find it that useful in early game, since you'll need all the mana and damage you can get.

Of course, level up Walrus Punch every time you have the chance!

When everything is maxed up, go on and level up stats.

Item Build:

This is the boots that I like the best on him. The attack speed and strength bonus is really helpful. Also, you can use "treads switch" so you can get some extra mana when you need it.

Some people enjoy using these boots on him because it fixes his mana problems early on. So if you want to help your team with some mana, and spam your spells, pick this up!

Movement speed to catch your enemies and damage to hit them harder with your Walrus Punch. A fine item for him.

A good item for him, gives you mana when you need, also gives you some regeneration. Pick this up only if you have Phase Boots!.

The Bottle is really good on Tuskarr, because it heals him and most important, gives him mana, he really needs it. Also, it's very useful for ganking and roaming, since it'll keep you full as you find runes.

One of my favorite items, it gives good stats and also movement speed for you, but also for allies! It's pretty cheap and it's effective at any stage of the game. Later on, you can still sell it if you need space and gold.

Strength, health, attack speed, regeneration and damage! Everything Tuskarr needs! I find this item really useful on him, because it gives a huge damage boost, which also works very well with Walrus Punch. Also, it makes him a bit more durable.

Since Tuskarr needs damage, this will be a great item for him, giving +60 damage. Also, since decreased armor means more physical damage, even better, more damage for him. So this is a great pick-up for him. Boosts his damage a lot.

Attack speed, armor for you and your team and armor reduction for your enemies. Just perfect for Tuskarr, will make him more durable and he will help his team while melting the enemies armors!

Good damage and a little attack speed boost. This will make your ultimate even stronger, and also you'll deal more damage from the passive. This also counters evasion, a nice pick up for him.

Health, damage and regeneration. This will make Tuskarr even more durable and deal even more damage, so pick it up if you are having a good time farming and you can afford it!

Cheap mana regen, damage and armor, later on turn into Vladmir's Offering.

This is not really a must, it's situational, only if you have more melee heroes in your team and you need some extra pushing power.

Fast way to get mana and health. Also some stats.

Since you'll be involved in many kills, you'll get many charges you can use! Easy good heal for you and your team.

If your enemy team has some fed carries who deal a lot of damage, like Drow Ranger, I recommend this item, return their damage so they'll kill themselves.

Pick this up if you need to disable a carry like Faceless Void, who is based on auto attacks. It gives you some strength, damage and evasion, pretty good item for him.

More armor, more mana and even a slow aura. What could be better?

Not a needed item, but it's good, pick it up if your team has heroes with a lot of armor, like Dragon Knight. Also helps killing Roshan.

A lot of health, damage and life steal. Will make you really durable.

More mana, mana regeneration and stats. Also a great disable for your enemy team. Worth picking up.
Good burst damage to kill enemy heroes fast.

More health and regeneration, get only if you'll need to be more durable and block some right click damage.

A nice item for him, stats, regeneration and spell block. Pick this up if your enemy team has disables that go through Black King Bar, like Beastmaster's roar.

Magic resistance and regeneration, will make you more durable, and also, can be upgraded into Pipe of Insight to help your team. Do so only if the enemy team has a lot of magical damage.

Pick this up if your enemy team has a lot of disables.

Pick this up if your enemy team is split pushing or trying to back door.

A pretty nice item for him, since the regeneration fixes his mana problems, also the cleave and damage goes well with Walrus Punch.

Laning Phase

Laning Phase:

Well, Since Tuskarr needs some levels and farm in order to be really good, you'll want to farm your early game items as soon as possible.

The best lane partners you can have are supports who can disable. For example Crystal Maiden, Lina and so on.

You can get some easy kills with your Snowball if you got a good support that can stun or slow the enemy. Snowball both of you in, stun, hits, and Ice Shards if he's still alive and getting away!

If you can't handle your lane and you can't farm or get experience, you should roam and gank, in order to help the other lanes to dominate the enemies.

Ganking and Roaming

Ganking and Roaming:

Ganking as Tuskarr is simple. You'll have your Bottle so you can pick up runes, which will give you a good heal and will fix your mana problems.

You can initiate alone with Snowball, or you can just walk in the lane, grab your teammates and use Snowball together with them, so you'll roll together to the enemy hero. Then you can use Ice Shards in order to block your enemy, since it creates a barrier in front of him. The Ice Shards isn't really necessary, only if the lane you're ganking has no disable or the enemy is escaping. When you're level 6, it'll be even easier! Since Walrus Punch is a strong spell which also stuns and slows the enemy.

You can roam the lanes if you can't do something on your own lane, or if the other lanes are doing bad. Using the Bottle to keep yourself with a good amount of health and mana, you'll gank pretty easily using your Snowball and Ice Shards.

If the river or jungle is warded and you can't gank, you can either purchase a Smoke of Deceit, or just take the long way around the wards. Or if you're lucky, your support will talk English and he will actually de-ward.

Team fights

Team fights:

In team fights, if you initiated, you should focus on your enemies carry, since the carry deals the most damage. If the supports remain, you'll take them down easily when no one will kill you from behind. Remember, Snowball in with your team and kill everything with your interesting spells!

If the enemy team initiates on you, try to do your best to stop the hero that deals the most damage to your team. If everything goes wrong, just fall back and initiate when you can while your enemies are on cooldowns.

Also, always use Walrus Punch when the enemy is under 50% health, so it deals more damage. Only use it above 50% health if it's needed!

Friends and Foes

Friends:

Your friends are mainly heroes who can disable and can deal aoe damage.

Some examples are:

And so on, I think you got it. :)

Foes:

Since you really need your spells in order to be effective, your worst enemies are mana burners and silences.

Some examples would be:

And so on.

Thanks for reading!

Thanks for reading!

Thanks for reading everyone, this was my first guide, I'm not a really good guide maker, I'm bad at formatting and such, but I hope this guide will help people once Tuskarr is released. I've played him in DotA 1 and he's really fun to play.

Please vote and post comments, on what can I improve and what should I change.

Thanks to xCO2 for helping me with the alternate builds.

His ult is a critical strike, so no.

Does Snowball] disconnect wisp's [[Tether? If not that could make for some interesting combos. And do you think that a Helm of Discord could be good for his Q and W ability's?
