So this is not 100% CONFIRMED ...BUT

MMR is Region based.

so for each Region the MEAN MMR is completely different.

for example.

US the MEAN MMR is around 2.8k.
Where in SEA the MEAN MMR is hovering around 2.6k.

so if a SEA player who is 2.6k would play in US there is a loading applied of 200 MMR.

i only recently learned this through the Dev.page and its bloody huge i think.

depending on the MEAN MMR of the region each player would TECHNICALLY have a VARIABLE MMR.

i bet mine in russia is over 9000.....

Russia trench and US east master race confirmed:

Thanks for all of the great posts; It makes for some interesting info. I'll make sure to catch up with my friend to discuss his theory about the "intentional 50% win rate for players" and find out where he got that idea from.

GLHF guys.

If you feel you're better than the MMR you're currently at there is no way to really get around the algorithm. Re calibrating with a smurf can validate this, your MMR may be a little bit higher, but you'll probably still be in the same skill bracket. One thing to check to actually assess your skill level is to see what skill bracket you're in in whatever mode you play. Try this solo, because friends can skew it one way or the other. For instance, I had a **** MMR. I would practice against others on my friends list at higher MMRs and beat one of them mid. Instantly I was full of myself bantering MMR is ****...wrong.
So I recalibrated with a new account, I tracked the dotabuff and notice did gone up a skill bracket to High, won a few of those and went up to Very High..got my **** pushed in. Eventually I would see a trend in those higher skill games (jumping up after a win streak). To stay in that bracket I would need to be a whole lot better to even come close to competing. the algorythm works in separating those skill brackets, as my recalibration landed me in the mid 3k MMR, it validated that ok my visible number is a bit higher, but I'm essentially in the same bracket, just closer to the higher end of the normal skill bracket but not in the High Skill tier quite yet. Taught me two valuable lessons: MMR isn't perfect, but isn't too far off, and I'm not a highly skilled player, thus I do not belong with the big boys as of yet regardless of how good I thought I was.
Step 1: Pick Bristleback
Step 2: type in all chat:"GL hf"
Step 3: solo offlane
Step 4: first blood triple kill solo vs trilane
Step 5: continue head butting keyboard
Step 6: don't care, Bristleback doesn't give a ****
Step 7: screenshot repeated: BB OP comments in all chat
Step 8: alternate games with Slark pick
