I've read "Welcome to DOTA 2, You Suck." by Purge, and I truly do suck right now. I started by playing for two weeks with nothing but bots.

Last night I queued up for some real matches, played three, and lost horribly each time. I fed. I took forever to buy things (and I even was using the in-game guides). I tried to run away and got killed by creeps.

I also watched carries who auto-attacked, pushed the lane from the beginning, and players who repeatedly charged in alone against a well fed Shadow Fiend with 36 souls built up (stompy stompy). It was still fun, but also a big 'effing mess.

I'm terrible, but I think I understand the basics. I'm not auto-attacting. I get some last hits when I'm trying to. I don't try to last hit when I'm supporting a carry. I've even been known to deny on occasion (I had by far the most denies in each game I played last night, but I still only had around 10). I try to carry TP scrolls, though I have trouble watching the mini-map while laning.

I'm interested in meeting up with other new players (or patient vets) who want to have a more organized (but still casual) game where people actually communicate what's going on, and don't stand around doing nothing while waiting for their health/mana to slowly tick up when there is a courier in base (that I bought) (>_<).

I'm new to pretty much everything about this game (and MOBAs in general), so advice is appreciated as well.

Thanks.

Sounds like you've got a looooong way to go. I recommend watching purge vids, he's the creater ot "welcome to dote". Usually, got a video or two uploaded daily. I recommend just keep playing against real ppl.

I ussually just play game by myself to practice last hitting. No bots or anything and just time-trial yourself racing for the ancient. It'll help you get your shop/courier micro down.

Welcome to DOTA, a world where dragons exist and killing your friends is a good thing. It's alright to lose games, it's a chance to review the things you've done and anything that can be changed to improve your play.

If you want a mentor btw, here's a list of mentors whom are willing to lend a hand to lift you up from the learning cliff of a game called DOTA.

link.

Thanks for the replies and advice!

I'll definitely try that time-trail thing, Hellfish. Nubtrain, thanks for the link. It might be a bit before I message a mentor. I'm not going to be anything other than very casual, and I would think those folks want someone a bit more dedicated.
