Slark is not your average hero. With a practical haste rune, he can gank in seconds. Health too low? Not a problem. He will have ONLY 103.6 HP regen per second. Not a big deal. Pouncing at the speed of 933.3? Not so fast.
Pounce, Already taking down a bunch of HP and putting them on a leash for 3.5 seconds. 75 manna cost. A good gank and escape move. It can mess-up Charge of Darkness, Assassinate, and a towers fireballs. Dark Pact, 300 damage in 3 seconds, removing all rebuffs from Slark and taking 150 damage. OP. 1.5 second delay, 40 Manna cost. Agility Shift. 19 bonus damage. Removes max health and manna. Reduces enemy attack damage and attack speed. Shadow Dance, haste rune passive, stupid HP regeneration, untargetable, escape move. Great combination with Pounce. The healing move, and the move that Roshan cannot surpass. Only Aoes' can hit Slark in this form.
Combined with Slark's Agility Shift, this creats a great combo. 85 attack speed so you can hit the enemy even faster, draning their max life and manna. Even Pudge will have a hard time.
It may look strange that you would get boots at lv.1, but it comes in handy. When escaping, you would usually try to Pounce into trees on far into the lane. The cooldown for Pounce is slightly long in early game however.
When you get the necessary items, you should be able to fight Roshan. If you have Abbysal Blade in your inventory, you could try to deny the Aegis. The Aegis however, may prove useful in a weird gank. Try not to waste it.
