This is how I play Troll.
Basically the idea is that he does not really fit the 1 carry role. He has a ton of utility with his global however, and 1 v 1 he can stomp most heroes. In addition to that he is a great pusher, and he has the ability to solo Roshan with very few items.
My justification for why I build Vladmir's offering is that the majority of the time I need lifesteal I am in either jungling or bashing the **** out of another hero. This is why I skip HotD and go Vlads. The regen also gives me the mana Troll needs. I used to build HotD + Aquila into maybe a satanic late but the buildup felt funky and I was forced to always go crit or another dmg item anyways.
So as my UAM I choose Desolator. The ultimate goal in Dota is to take the Throne. with Deso and Battle Trance it is pretty ****ing easy to take any structure in a short amount of time.
Basically you can skip anything else I write and just look at the items as completely situational other than Vladmir's.
I use BKB when the other team has a lot of spells and limited BKB piercing heroes.
Otherwise I skip it in favor of an early damage item.
Deso is good if you have a pool of gold and they don't have evasion.
If they have a PA or brew or a Butterfly hero I lean towards an early MKB starting with Demon Edge. MKB makes it really hard to fight troll because when I switch stances and start throwing axes up hills the **** is GG.
Crit is good if you are getting beat up a bit. It's cheap to build up and provides a good amount of damage. I prefer Deso or MKB 9/10 games though. Crit is my luxury item once I have everything else.
Often times I will skip the BKB, get an early damage item then get the BKB once the other team has control items like Scythe or Orchid or Euls. That way I have a longer time of free movement during the mid/late portion of the game instead of a 4 second BKB.
Regarding Roshan timing with this build, you don't have the damage or lifesteal do do it until you have Vladmir's and one damage item. You can solo him with a Vlad's+Yasha or Vlad's Crysalis easily however.
I never get medallion because the goal is to get 6 slotted and not have to backtrack with items I buy. For the same reason I stopped building Aquila as I would often decide to switch to this build mid game and split it and buld Vlad's.
This is definitely just a pub build I like and don't see other people play but I believe it is a useful way to play a very versatile hero.
The most important thing I try remember when playing Dota pubs is that the goal is to take the throne as soon as possible if I want MMR. At the very least secure a large advantage and then play for fun. This hero allows me to press R and the whole team can quickly take an objective without any coordination other than "Hit the tower."
