Solo MMR 2k to 4k

Introduction

Greeting friends, I hope you find this useful, but just to warn you that English is my second language, so I am apology for my broken English.

First, When I transfer from HON to Dota 2 my start MMR was 3.5k, and I only made it to 3.7k and drop all the way to 2.8k. One of the reason was my wife gave birth to my first child. Anyway, I keep losing games and I do not know what cause it. Then I spent times studied all my mistakes and tried everything I could to improve the game. Right now I am back at 3.5k and looking to go further with confident.

If you read everything I am sure you will make it to 4k.

Mistake I have learnt.

1. control your hero.
Learn to control your hero. Sound very simple, but if you don't know what is autoexec.cfg, then you are missing on something. Have you heard of "quick cast", if not, give it a look. Learn to control your hero might sound very simple, but majority of 2k-3k think they already mastered it. If you can not bottle crow with ease, or cast 10 invoker's skills in a row in -wtf mode, or cloning with Naga, then think again.

2. learn every heroes.
dota 2 wiki is very useful. learn tip and trick on every heroes but only master a few. I suggest master 3 heroes of each roles (3 carries, 3 supports, 3 tank, 3 initiators). Watch tournament and learn.

3. Gameplay
Majority of 2k-3k players only play for beautiful score, and most of those kills come from solo kill, which it's very rare in a high end game. You need to learn how to "TEAM FIGHT". Learn to pick, learn to position yourself, learn what is zoning,, learn how to be a good supporter, learn how to carry, and learn mechanics of the game. There are always room for learning.

4. Death count (feeding)
I am in this game where level 16 slark dominated another team with a score of 10-0. And he started to get a bit cocky going in 1v3, and of cause he got killed. Next minute, it happen again but this time he got a kill. So it's 11-2.

This is VERY IMPORTANT. when level 16 slark 10-0 he is obviously holding a streak, so a bounty and an experience from his death will greatly benefit his opponents. Second death will bring enemies level closer to par with slark. So instead, he should have Roshan and pushed for the finish.

important message here - "when you are dominating another team, you just push and execute the game."

5. old saying: practice makes perfect
have you practice lately? if not, how do you expect to get good? you can practice through pub game, which I think you should do before you rank if you're 2k. GET GOOD GET PRACTICE!

happy 4k
