Necrolyte loves a long fight - Death Pulse keeps his whole team alive while slowly withering away the enemy. Thus, most builds revolve around tanking Necro up and then getting a big mana item.
Necro's mana is tight in the early game. Be a good last hitter (for Sadist) and save Wand charges for when you need to use Mek (double heal!)
Reaper's Scythe also stuns - it doesn't have to always be the last hit. Because it is an ult, it also goes through BKB!
Soul Ring is an interesting item if your team intends to push very early. Aghanim's isn't worth it unless you are facing someone with 5K HP.
