Introduction

Hi, i am just going to write a very short guide for the new PL because many people don't know what to get for him in lieu of his skill overhaul.

I will cover his skill build, item build and gameplay changes in order.

Skill build justification

Spirit lance is still your nuke and you have to max it out first.

You need at least 1 level in dopple to dodge projectiles/man fight early game

Max phantom rush after lance to increase your chasing power.

Ulti whenever possible because unlike the old ultimate, the image generating rate has been increased by alot.

Item build

Firstly, i would like to start off by saying that PL is no longer a powerhouse late game carry. His late game potential is actually not very strong now due to his agi growth being nerfed from 4.2 to 3/level. In addition, you cannot split push due to images lasting only 8 seconds, and taking 500% dmage.

Instead, PL has become a mid game monster who excels at chasing people down, as well well as doing lots of damage. I would say that PL has become more of a gank oriented hero rather than a farm/split push oriented one.

1) starting items.
It dosen't really matter. I like circlets because they can be easily turned into wraith bands though.

2) Situational starting items
I will get wand if there is an enemy spammer in the lane. Urn is good if no-one is going for it. Pl can most certainly use urn as he will be ganking alot after he reaches level 6.

3) Core items
You must get diffusal blade now. You cant get radiance with images lasting only 8 seconds. With his acclerated image production, the mana burn is too good to pass up for anything else.

Spamming wraith bands is also a good idea due to the shift in PLs gameplay. PL should be engaging in fights all the time, and WBs squeeze out that crucial bits of health and damage.

4) BKB
I know BKB sounds stupid. You turn it on and everyone knows which PL is the real one right? Thats true, but hear me out. People are going to spam AOE spells on you and your illusion gang. If SK ultis you, invoker meteors, and Lina combos you, you will die, your illusions will die and everyone will die. You cannot be relying on dopple all the time as it will frequently be on cooldown/enemies will wait for that 1 sec to end.

The answer to surviving that is BKB.

Conclusion---> Get BKB if there are is significant spell based AOE damage you are worried about. Only turn it on if there are incoming AOE damage spells. You don't want to let anyone know who the real PL is if you can help it.

5) orchid
Orchid is a great item to counter heroes like timbersaw, who counter you hard with their AOE spells. I will consider orchird as a replacement to BKB IF there is only 1 hero you are worried about. Any more than 1, get BKB

Don't worry about the fact that orchid does nothing for your images. With the PL rework, the real PL does the majority of the damage anyway. The images are just there for distraction and mana burn.

6) Butterfly/heart
Butterfly/heart transitions you to a late game carry. Nothing much to say here

7) EoS/S&Y
These items are items to pick if you are doing well. The extra slows will pocket you more kills. The extra HP is important if you are ahead, because you don't want to die with all the new gold changes

8) Manta
The good old manta is still good on PL. The 2 illusions benefit from phantom rush and juxtapose, although they cant really make an army on its own.

9) Assault
Assault is by far the item that give PL the most DPS for its cost, after diffusal. The aura works on the illusions, giving them more opportunities to mana burn(which is the major source of their damage anyway), and the attack speed increase helps PL generate more images. Assault is the go to item if there is little to no magic AOE threats.

SUMMARY
-Your core is Diffusal. With these changes, you cannot go for any other core item.
- Get urn/ring of aquila only if no one else gets them.
-Fill up your inventory with Wraiths because you will be fighting alot.

The next item choice is very important. These are some choices
-Get BKB if there are lots of AOE spells flying around
-Get orchird to counter specific AOE heroes
-Get Assault if there are no AOE spells
-Get EoS/S and Y if you are doing well and want more kills
-Get Butterfly/Heart if the game is rather passive and there is lots of time to farm.
-Get manta if none of the above apply
-Get radiance if you are a dumb ****.

Gameplay changes

pre level 6
The new PL should be played very aggressively in lane. With a nuke/slow, a gap closer, as well as an abilty to dodge projectiles, it is a complete waste if all you do is farm.

Start a fight with a slow and phantom rush to the target. Hopefully, your ally will stun/nuke/slow yoru target and you can follow it up with a kill. What differentiates a good PL from an average PL is the use of dopple. Dopple should be saved for projectile dodging after your phantom rush, diving towers, or getting away.

of course you should,t neglect last hitting. PL has high base damage and should last hit with ease. The faster you get your diffusal, the faster you can start fighting.

Level6
Once you get level 6, alternate between the lane and the jungle to speed up your farm. PL is a very good jungler with his ulti making so many illusions. Always make sure you have a TP scroll with you so that you can TP into any team fights.

An additional top is that you can collect the bounty rune and use dopple to move back up the cliff to farm some more. Also, it is usually advisable to use dopple to make illusions to take for you first as it cost very little mana.

Post diffusal blade
-PL with a diffusal blade is a ganking machine. Gank alot. Farm offensively in the enemy jungle(only if you have offensive wards of course)

-In team fights, PL isnt as good(he shines mostly at 1v1/1v2 scenarios). DOn't be in a hurry to enter the fray as you are rather squishy.
