night stalker is quite versatile item wise, so for mid game items you can fill in another item from the situational items after solar crest. you can also go double bracer or get a soul ring if you are struggling with mana.
as for crippling fear, you can take a point earlier so that you have it available with your ultimate, against heroes with lots of escape. e.g. ember spirit/ slark
