A method I use to start my games as Ember Spirit is not purchasing any items. I save up and get a Void Stone and a Ring of Health. These combine to make a Perseverance, giving you more mana and health regen. This is extremely helpful, as it gets you through some of the first small teamfights and keeps you alive in your lane.
If you get a slight gold advantage, you will be able to get Battle Fury. This gives you a large attack bonus, as well as a health and mana regen boost. Also, since Ember Spirit uses a lot of mana, you should get Arcane Boots. These will allow you to get a quick mana boost.
Searing Chains: Use this when trying to escape or when chasing other heroes. It deals up to 100 damage per second, allowing for you to deal damage while trapping units. I have found that it is very effective against melee heroes like Juggernaut or Alchemist(especially when they used Unstable Concoction.
Sleight of Fist: Use this when chasing heroes or early game to harass heroes laning with you. Especially effective against Meepo.
Flame Guard: Use this to get some extra damage in when pushing.
Fire Remnant: This ability can be used for escape, or it can be for mass damage. If you place 3 remnants around a hero and teleport to them, it will deal 600 damage at level 3.
In teamfights, Ember Spirit is very useful. He will allow you to attack all heroes and units. To initiate the teamfight, you should use Flame Guard and Sleight of Fist. The Flame Guard follows you throughout your jumping, so it does extra damage to the heroes and units around you. You should also put a Fire Remnant outside the location before the fight takes place. This will allow you to teleport out of battle in a bad situation, allowing you to save gold and not waste time. Also, if you have your Boots of Travel, you will be able to teleport back to your team's fountain. This will help you heal for when they push back to your base.
