creepa's Meepo Guide

Introduction

Hi! I am creepa and this is my first guide here on Dotafire. My second most successful is Meepo so I just want to help anyone out that is struggling with this rather difficult hero. As you may or may not know, Meepo requires a lot of micromanagement and map awareness. Over the span of his Dota life, he hasn't had any major nerfs mainly because he is only op when you use him right. If this guide doesn't live up to your expectations, be sure to check out other guides, Dotacinema videos, and/or twitch streams to learn more.

Meepo's Role

Meepo is a hard carry and with enough farm, can shut down and solo any hero on the map. Although by himself, he is not durable per say, late game, with five Meepos, he can have 10k+ health points. If you want to take the usual set up, and go safe lane to get farm, then do so. But depending on the lane set up on the opposing team, it could be viable to solo offlane as you'll have more durability by level three when you get your ultimate. Usually, as a low level Meepo, you won't help out in ganks until you have at least two Meepos and three levels of Poof for the extra damage. Just to be safe, wait until you at least have mek for the survivability and armor.

Skills

Meepo's first ability is aptly named Earthbind. This is a Point Target ability that when lands on an enemy target, keeps them there for two seconds. This spell costs a static 100 mana at all four levels but increases in range respectively: 500/750/1000/1250. The net itself only has a 220 radius so make sure you are able to land it. The cooldowns are as follows per level: 20/16/12/8. Meepo's second ability is called Poof and can be used for escaping or damage purposes. Poof is a point and unit target ability that any Meepo can use to teleport to another Meepo with a 1.5 second delay. Although at first this seems like just another escape ability, it gets better. When a Meepo poofs to another Meepo, it deals 80/100/120/140 respective damage in a 375 radius. This will be a major nuke in team fights when every Meepo uses it at once. To be exact, with five Meepos, this will deal 700 damage altogether. And with only a short cooldown of several seconds and these respective levels: 12/10/8/6, this will help out your team exponentially. And with only a static mana cost of 80 at all levels, it won't burn through your mana eitbecause epo's third ability is a passive ability called Geostrike. It does damage over time at 7/14/21/28 and applies a slow of 5%/10%/15%/20% on impact. Although this might seem small, it stacks with each Meepo's Geostrike therefore having the ability to slow an enemy by 100%. Meepo's ultimate is known as Divided We Stand. This is by far my favorite ability in the game although quite hard to master. Divided We Stand is a passive ability that provides one clone of Meepo for each level of his ultimate. This means, at level 17, you will have four Meepos in total (excluding Aghanim's scepter). Each Meepo shares 75% of the original Meepo's stats and when one Meepo dies, all of them die. Another added bonus to his ultimate is that his respawn rate is increased by 10%/20%/30% at each level. Every Meepo shares experience and gold between each other, giving the chance to gain a lot of xp and gold over a span of time. Each Meepo can use all of Meepo's abilities, although the clones can only hold the boots currently equipped on the original Meepo but the original Meepo can hold anything. If Aghanim's Scepter is picked up, an extra clone is provided, therefore making 5 Meepos at your disposal. Additionally, stats between Meepos are shared at 100% instead of 75%. This helps with choosing whether or not to put certain Meepos in certain places on the map because with Aghs, they all have the same chance on surviving (excluding items on main Meepo). The best thing about this ability currently, is that you can skill it starting at level 3. This means that if you keep both Meepos together in a lane, you will be doing double your original damage in the first 5 minutes of the game.

Pros/Cons

Pros

    High damage output
    Immense experience gain
    Great farm capability
    Global map presence
    Low mana cost for spells
    Good pushing ability
Cons
    Requires a lot of micromanagement
    Stuns are his worst enemy
    Lacks a good escape
    Quite squishy early game

Laning

With Meepo, if you are encountered with heavy harass, make sure to put your first point in Poof for the last hitting ability and counter-harass. Now, if you're laning with a good support like Warlock or Dazzle (to help you with healing and survivability), then put your first point into Earthbind to lock enemies down. If you are going safe lane, bring a good support for healing and harass so you can get your farm. If you are going to solo offlane, get good regen items and just try not to die. Enemies to watch for in lane are heavy stunners and disablers such as: Earthshaker, Ember Spirit, Sven, and Kunkka.

Items

Although it has already been mentioned in the build, starting items for Meepo should always be regen and survivability items such as Tango and Ring of Protection. But if you are going for the DPS build, it might not be a bad idea to buy a pair of Slippers of Agility or two for the extra damage. Early game, always buy Boots of Travel for the extra speed and Ring of Basilius for the mana regen. Core items for Meepo are Power Treads for extra attack speed and damage, Mekansm for the healing and armor in team fights, and Aghanim's Scepter for 100% stat share between Meepos and even an extra Meepo! Situational items for the Survivability Build include Pipe of Insight for the spell block, Blink Dagger for escape, Vladimir's Offering for the lifesteal aura, and even Scythe of Vyse for the 3.5 second disable. Now, for the DPS Build, situational items can be Heart of Tarrasque for the health and health regen and Assault Cuirass for the attack speed and armor. And last but not least, although a very cheap item, a Smoke of Deceit can be picked up because it renders all of your Meepos invisible unlike the Shadow Blade or invisibly rune.

Early Game

Early game as Meepo, as I said before, you should be trying to farm safelane. Once you get a mek, try to help your allies with a gank or team fight. Remember, your main goal is to farm as much as possible so having one or two jungling and one in lane can really expand your xp and gold gain so make sure they're getting as fat as possible.

Mid Game

Now, during mid game, you will have a lot more money and depending on xp gain, 3 or more Meepos. By this time, you should already have a Mekansm, Blink Dagger, and Aghanim's Scepter. This will allow a lot more damage output and map presence. With at least 4 Meepos, you should be able to take towers pretty quick so make sure you're pushing as well.

Late Game

By this time, you should definitely have 5 Meepos. And you should have a few situational items like Heart of Tarrasque, Assault Cuirass, Scythe of Vyse, and Pipe of Insight. During late game, try to keep all of your Meepos together, (or most of them), to set up team fights and push harder. If the game comes to a base race, having a Meepo will definitely be an advantage. You can leave the rest of your team to defend while you take all of your Meepos to push ancient because you can do it very fast with this hero.
