What gives people the impulse to ban heroes such as Tidehunter and Lycanthrope, is what COULD happen later on in the game. For instance take a look at this team's picks and bans...

Team 1 (Picks and Bans)

Picks
Lycanthrope
Shadow Shaman
Vengeful Spirit
Rubick
Broodmother

Bans
Slardar
Nature's Prophet
Bounty Hunter
Dark Seer
Chaos Knight

Shadow Shaman, Vengeful Spirit top and Lycanthrope jungle sets up a very powerful trilane that will enable Lycanthrope to get plenty of early kills due to the disables Shadow Shaman and Vengeful Spirit both have. However if this does not work, Lycanthrope can easily jungle without worrying about a wild Nature's Prophet blinking in on top of him (due to the ban). The bans on both Slardar and Bounty Hunter increase the amount of gold spent on Sentry Wards and Dust of Appearance to negate Broodmother's farming capability.

Basically, the point of banning the heroes selected by the captain is to strategically inhibit the other team from destroying your team composition. Another example would be banning Chaos Knight as he is difficult to handle if your team lacks the crowd control to shut him and his illusions down.

first of all, the main hero of this lineup is lycan but we can see lycan is 90% ban at first ban phase. And among your ban lineup, you did not ban that 1 hero that always got picked and is ultra dangerous which is enigma. It's true that VS can swap lycan out but that means all the other is down by enigma ulti.

2nd of all, all the other hero is squishy as hell and you don't have any initiator unless shadow shaman and rubick get a blink dagger. But looking at the lineup, i'd say it's a pushing team so in other word, the enemy might be the 1 that is initiating on you, so what you gotta ban is the anti-pusher like tidehunter, sand king.

3rd.. Broodmother is pretty much a solo off-laner until the game ends. It means you will be split pushing, distracting the enemy from the broodmother lane. It means you will be going 5-4 and you have no AOE, all your skills are single target skill (except the ether shock from rhasta and bolt from rubick). You don't have any AOE disable or anything that can win the teamfight. Your only hope is to gank the enemy 1 by 1 and push. Broodmother is not a good teamfight hero either, so even if you're pushing with broodmother, it's only adding the pushing power not the teamfight power.

overall you have good point in banning what might messed up your point, it's just that 1 have to balance the lineup..
