First blog on Dotafire! Hooray! I started this off with a quick parody guide. It's a Riki guide that just makes fun of how he's played in pub matches. I don't really know enough to make a real guide. I might someday though. For now, maybe more parodies.

Well, hi, i'm just kind of worry bout the tournaments, they are getting kind of boring chosing the same picks, i've seen all tournaments, but i think, that they need to expand the game a bit more, like, between 2 teams are 5 bans each and 5 picks, equal are a 20 heroes between picks and ban, so the idea its basically if they already pick those 20, they cant pick those 20 hereos in the complete serie BO2, BO3, BO4 and BO5, wich means you see more hereos instead of just a change of 2 or 3 in picks and bans, that probably would be a nice touch since pro players can play with more than 10 hereos at least. thanks for read, sorry for my grammar, not my original language.

Soon after the Riki incident, I reached the point in pubs where nobody plays the stupid invisible goat anymore. That has nothing to do with my story today, but I felt like mentioning it.

The Mirana
This one happened just today. Recently I had been using the community market in order to get items. Mostly for Omniknight and Invoker, so I decided to pick the former for this game.

This is how my team composition looked:
    -
Mirana
- Omniknight
- Phantom Assassin
- Spirit Breaker
- Puck

And this is how the enemy team looked:
    -
Viper
- Huskar
- Jakiro
- Legion Commander
- Vengeful Spirit

As you can probably guess, I wanted Omniknight In order to counter their three carries. The plan I had in my head was this: (Keep in mind I was on the Radiant team) Mirana and Spirit Breaker top, Puck mid. That would leave me and Phantom Assassin bottom.

As with the Riki tale, there were signs which showed me my game was going to go south quickly. The first of these was the Mirana's name.…

Why do so many people play Riki and only a few people actually get dust? Does anyone notice that there is a Riki in every second match that you play but no-one ever gets dust? This is 'Officially Amazing' (I can't believe I just made that reference). If anyone agrees that it is insanely annoying that no-one gets dust, do comment. oh and while your at it I want to know what the mojority of people think of drow, sniper and viper (i personally don't think vipers that bad).

KSY! here!

The Great Elo Climb

I want to try something. My mmr has been very erratic as of late. Instead of consistently doing mediocre, I want to see change in an upward progression. The best way? An MMR spreadsheet!

My MMR Spreadsheet.

Here we can see my MMR. It's at 3605. Over the next weeks, leading up to Ti4, I want to see how high I can actually improve!

______________________________________________________________________________________

I'll keep my blogs very short, not more than a few paragraphs with my spreadsheet updated. Wish me luck!

After a long day at school, I like to think that a game of dota 2 will cheer me up. The usual loaders and then on to character selection. I pick my ever useful Furion and am about to settle into my gaming mindset when suddenly, from my own team,
"Noob Furion picker! Reported!"
I stare at the screen, hoping that this is just a stupid one off troll. I was sadly mistaken.
The first sign was (after calling Furion nooby) picking Riki.
I clutch my head in order to prevent a deadly facetable, hoping against hope that he was a good player.

Why am I such a naive idiot?

The game begins and the usual jungle items appear in my inventory. I decide to risk a look at Riki's item slots. I only see one item. A recipe for a wraith band, and nothing else.

I stare at my screen, slowly accepting the fact that this riki was not a troll. Just an idiot.

(CUE EPIC LANING PHASE DESCRIPTION)

Riki is bot, whilst I hang in radiant's jungle. The Riki wasn't that bad at last hits. He was actually pretty good. …

Why are Damage Types Important?

A big part of getting better at DOTA is expanding your knowledge of how some of the more arcane mechanics work. Damage types are a classic example of something that looks complicated, but are actually quite straightforward and useful once you get your head round them.

I'm going to look at a few ingame examples that will hopefully help you see how this understanding can help you. For a full, detailed explanation take a look at Dota 2 Wiki.

Our example hero is Bane, who uses four of the main types of damage:

Physical Damage is reduced by Damage Block and Armor.

Like all heroes, Bane has a standard right click that inflicts Physical Damage.

Say we attacked a Bloodseeker carrying a Poor Man's Shield for 60 damage. First of all, the PMS will block 20 damage from our attack. Then his armour of 4 will reduce the remaining damage of 40 by 19.4%. This works out at a 7.76 reduction, leaving us with 32.24 damage.

Magic Damage is reduced by…
