I find when i queue solo there is only so much you can do as a support. If you harass/zone out the enemy efficiently, doesn't matter if your carry cant last hit and just autoattacks.

If you want to climb, play a carry or snowballing mid. Pray to the gods you get a capable support. And snowball.

If you are better, you will raise your MMR and you will get to a point where playing support will make a real difference. When i queue solo i cannot support, it is a waste of time (unless i go Warlock or someone that can carry with farm) but when i go in party play i always support because i have a higher rating, and friends who can take advantage of a free lane!

I 100% think i am a better Support than carry (jungle second, then Solo offlane, then mid, then carry) but i sometimes carry in solo just to win. You just cant have the enough mid/late game damage output/general impact on most supports to really decide the outcome of a game if you have a useless carry/mid.

This isn't the only way of playing support in pubs. If your lane is considerably weaker than their lane, just abandon that lane. You should never do something that isn't paying off. If your carry can't lasthit or you have no chance of salvaging the lane, just go gank mid or that other sidelane that isn't losing. That way you'll also at least maximise the exp your carry is getting. If one lane loses, make sure that other lanes win. Also, when you have made it clear to enemy team that you will gank constantly, never NEVER show up. If you aren't ganking, go farm woods. The fact that you have already ganked a lot makes the enemy really scared every time you go missing.

You don't have to pick those heroes to improve mmr. I reference you to this legend: http://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/2x0wtv/6k_solo_mmr_only_with_keeper_of_the_light/

I mostly play supports as well (btw WW is imba right now) and I have found the role quite enjoyable. In most pubs I fint that playing a little greedy on every support works quite well (warding but not always dewarding) so I get some Items and levels as well and my game is more fun. What is really important is to always carry a couple of tps so you can help out your other lanes. When you tp somewhere to save an ally and turn the gank around it raises morale and the spirit of your allies.

If you are really playing better than your allies then take over the position al the leader by arranging the lanes (always be nice). Maybe the enemys will have a void in the safelane, so it would be best to go and make an aggresive trilane, so he doesnt have any farm. Do they have a jungler? ask you allies to help you ward the jungle and gank him.

Alert your allies when you think someone comes to gank them (some people will be so focused on farming they doont see anything else)

I think the support role is one of the most impactful ones in Pubs, but it differs from what you do in a 5 man team.

So you like playing a #4 role support. Usually when I play support in MMR games I get stuck as poor man #5 support. Stick and boots by 20 min. Only getting wards, sents, dusts, and smoke for my team.

I don't mean to be rude, but if you considered playing a #5 support not as "being stuck with ****ty items" but as an opportunity to have a relatively large impact in the (early to mid) game while giving your carries the time and money they need to make an impact themselves later, then maybe you would enjoy it more! ;)

In pub, you can't expect everything go as you expected, just don't think too much about the mmr. Mmr is not a measurement of your skill, it is just digital numbers, it doesn't mean anything. If you are a good player, in average you will win more game than losing, so your mmr will rise slowly. Unless you are a hardcore player then mmr will rise much faster.

Pick snowballing hero, like imba spirits. Best way to win the game is to pick Juggernaut, then every opponent will smash their keyboard and abandon because Juggernaut is too damn powerful that you can see him in every game.

I don't like the incessant need to raise MMR for MMR's sake.

If you raise MMR without truly improving, then you'll end up back where you started, because you won't be good enough at that level.

Improve. If you get better at the game, your MMR will go up naturally.

http://www.dotafire.com/dota-2/guide/text-dense-goos-guide-to-improvement-techniques-13770

This guide has personally caused me to lower my MMR by 400 because I kept playing ranked after rebinding a bunch of keys like an ar tard. Honey though the guide has shown me so much useful information that I had to adapt my play style to a higher level and in two weeks im seeing the benefit already. This game is like any other activity, you want to improve, improve your basics and keep reworking your game. Be creative in your self analysis and don't take anything as perfect.

Besides that I would say the most important thing is to remember that it is a GAME and to have FUN.

Too bad our captain is either playing carry or Mid and I have to go above and beyond to keep him alive while still making stacks. Yet we still lose cause they can't do their job. Hate playing #5 support cause once mid game is over; I become useless.

So all I would be able to do is sacrifice my life to save an idiot core. I would have very little impact in changing the game in our favor. Also the usual #5 supports are the one's I'm not good with either. Never was good with Venge.
