I played wow pvp for awhile on a holy pally good times. Im not the best when it comes to player skill but ive been playing ARTS games for about 5 years now on and off, I reccomend Two Cents Gaming if youre willing to take constructive criticism, the clan has a decent core of players that will help you off to a good start. Look for me in game, just search Sulaxrox in steam im the only one.

Quick tips, Ganking, to make things easier on you in the long run watch BlitzDota streams on twitch as he is a very good solo mid and generally demonstrates effective ganking from the mid lane.
Also Purge plays dota 2 is a great channel on youtube, he may come across as an elitest, but he does provide a lot of videos on almost all of the heroes in game.

For Ganking learn the mid lane, this is generally the "Ganker" lane. Learning how to control runes, and applying pressure to the side lanes for map control are two big parts of the game, and can help you control the tempo.
For both focus on farming and zoning, get those last hits, dont auto attack, once youre effectively getting last hits (aim for 25 in 10 min if youre very new, its a decent reachable goal, otherwise try for 50 last hits in 10 min, thats where you want to be), than start focusing on denying while getting your own last hits or "CS".
This is especially important for carrying, auto attacking pushes creep waves up the lane, which you dont want during the laning phase, focus on last hits, and controlling the wave for safe farming.

Heroes for mid:Begin with a hero like Bane or Lion, theyre squishy but their skillsets can demonstrate the importance of control with how effective they can be at locking down other heroes. Stay away from Invoker, Pudge, QoP, and Storm Spirit for a little while, theyre a lot more skill intensive, and its better to focus on the basics for less stress while youre learning than having to worry about anything extra. Nyx assassin is also a very good mid hero to start with, easy to play, awesome ganker.
For Carrying, stay away from harder carries like Anti-mage, Faceless Void, Spectre, Naga Siren, Medusa for awhile to name a few, theyre heavily farm dependent and require much more awareness because theyre squishy and targeted because of their immense late game power. Stick with Skeleton King, Gyrocopter, Lifestealer, Dragon Knight and Juggernaut, all much easier to learn and play, and more survivable and effective early on (gyro is squishy but rocket barrage is punishing to anyone that gets near you solo).

Any other help find me in game id be happy to help.
Step 1: Pick Bristleback
Step 2: type in all chat:"GL hf"
Step 3: solo offlane
Step 4: first blood triple kill solo vs trilane
Step 5: continue head butting keyboard
Step 6: don't care, Bristleback doesn't give a ****
Step 7: screenshot repeated: BB OP comments in all chat
Step 8: alternate games with Slark pick

I'm not the greatest player - the upper part of the normal bracket - but I usually play these roles and can get you up to speed with what I know. I added you, and I expect nothing in return :3

a quick introduction - I've been involved with a variaty of MOBAs over the years, but HoN has been the one I've been most involved with. After getting into a decent community and practicing I managed to get a very respectable rating through solo and duo- queueing.
