I am a professional world of warcraft player taking a break from WOW until the new expansion (and if I succeed in dota, forever) hoping to push into the competitive DotA scene. I'm currently playing around 10 hours a day every day doing pretty basic theorycrafting (due to my lack of knowledge in the game) and pub games. Would be awesome to have a group of 5 skilled and equally determined people to queue/theorycraft with. You don't need to be good at dota per se, although it is preferred, but have a strong gaming background.

You can be a pro WoW player? How do you get money? You rarely hear of tournaments, though I do know there has been a few PVP ones in the past (Ocelote from SK's LoL team used to be a Warrior, I know), but I was doubtful you could live off it as your profession.

Where in the world are you from? You'll likely be wanting to queue with Europeans if you're European or Americans if you're American, for example - so nobody gets lag.

By the way, it's "per se", not "per say" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Latin_phrases_%28P%29#per_se )!

Mostly streaming High MMR ranked players in arena, my IRL friend does it for money, the reason there are not very many tournaments or professional events is because the skill cap for WoW is incredibly low.

I pve professionally. People pay thousands of dollars for the best gear, titles, mounts, etc. I live in america, but I can tailor my schedule to fit any timezone and play on any server lag free.

Aside from progression, we clear all the content available in about 2 hours weekly and collect our money from sell runs. During progression, however, we raid about 20 hours a day for 2-4 weeks. It's also not my only source of income. Most people in my guild have regular jobs, and just take time off from work during progression raids.

Holy smokes. Now that is a lot. The most progressed guild on my server when I played was the one I was in, we only raided 4 hours a day for 3 days each week, yet still ended up with server first LK25, LK10HC (nobody on the server got LK25HC, but we got him to 13% one time). We weren't very progressed, comparatively, I know, but many of the top guilds changed realms and most people weren't very good. We ended up getting server firsts in Cataclysm not too long after, then I quit. Guild mainly changed realm, raids were blander, and I preferred WotLK Enh Shaman, dat priority system, but Enh was faceroll in Cata, not to mention worse.

Nice, though. Interesting job, anyway. What's the most you've ever been paid for something, if you don't mind my asking? I'd imagine you've been paid a lot for Insane In The Membrane or something.

Haha yeah. Most people on the front page of wowprogress raid about 12-20 hours per day. It's not like that for the entire month long period of progression, though... Perhaps I was exaggerating. First couple of days we may raid about 20 hours per day, but it dies down fast. People get burnt out quickly . That kind of intensity and theorycrafting on that kind of schedule takes a toll.

Unfortunately there's no money in simply doing achievements. The money in pve comes from coaching, advertising sponsors, and sell runs. You can't simply get the insane title and get wired money ;p. Someone payed our guild several thousand dollars to make his warrior the most geared in the world a few months ago, which was split between the 8 people carrying (We 8 manned a 10 man raid and carried two people), so that was quite a bit. \

Just to give you an idea... Someone pays 300k gold which is the equivalent of around $280-300 USD. Depending on how many alts you have, you can do up to 3-4 sell runs per week with 2-3 people in each run. So $300x3 people per run x4 runs / split between 7 people per run = $514 bucks a week. If you did that, plus streaming, plus coaching you could make a good living. I'm not making that kind of money simply because I don't need or have the desire to play that much, and that kind of money wouldn't be consistent even if I did have the drive.

tl;dr if your guild was completely dominating a high pop server and had a fan base AND you had a bunch of geared alts, then you could live off of it. I know some people do.

Wow, that's really something I didn't expect.

In regards to the achievement thing, I thought, since you said "pve" rather than "raiding" it might have been like half raiding, half Korean gold farming mode, with a twist, but apparently I was wrong!

Props to you for being in such a good guild though! What class did you play, might I ask?

I'd be happy to play a few games with you, but I won't be able to form a team or whatever, I'm from the UK so the ping wouldn't be good! How many games have you played so far?

Only had the game for about 12 days. I'm at 125 or something wins. My main is a shaman and my alts are hunter, warrior, boomkin, lock, but I just play whatever the guild needs really.

Adding you :)
