You want to know when to buyback? When you know that not buying back is going to cost your team more than the money that it costs you to actually buyback. If you have to think about buying back then you probably don't need to, if you notice in higher tier games a player will wait until they actually need to be alive, they don't make the purchase and sit around 20 seconds and hope that the enemy is still going to do what they where anticipating 20 seconds ago, no, they wait until the enemy is in position and contesting an objective or a fight that requires them to be in it and they know they can reach the fight fast enough after respawning.

That's what I'm saying. Kind of a pain not having that feature, right? Hopefully something will be done about it.

Remember that you can buyback and scare your enemies, which may prevent them from pushing and cause them to fall back. Buyingback is a great option.

This may not be the most practical use of a buyback, but in rare cases, one would rush into a clash as false initiation, eat most of the opponents' ulti/impact skills, which allows his teammates some time to set up, or just to catch the opponents off guard. He then buys buck and quickly return to the teamfight, making it essentially 5 vs 6.
