Hey folks! my name is shuru (known in most games as "the-Mafia-Noodle" or "TheNoodleGeneral." a nickname having been given to me as a jungler/adc in league of legends, by my friends.

So here's the deal. after getting nearly to gold in League it grew stale, the champion pool was diverse in nature, yet predominately human based with lore sinking to the pits slowly, gameplay was fun (and still is) but seems predominately basic at a glance, last hit 100 or so minions go on a killing spree baron push lane win match all the same way no matter who I was playing. It only took me moments to look at a team comp and see who was support who was top who was jungle etc. and it was never a surprise, none of this "oh sona is going mid" stuff ever happens because people treat the game as if you have to abide by the meta to win.

Leagues fun, but Dota just has more diversity and depth to it IMHO. I've played about 15 bot games and had as much fun in those as I did vs real players in LoL. So I decided to make a bit of a transition here.

the biggest problem is I have no idea how this game works, who goes where, how the jungle is, the movement ( I know the movement and stuff is a bit more sluggish and paced than in league), and so on.

I have a grasp of couriers and such, but I'm still not very good, so I was going to ask people to give me some tips to better make my transition from league to dota, and help me understand roles and comps a little more.

I'd also like some tips on what hero's to try out, so far I've tried broodmother, lich, batrider, bountyhunter, and luna a bit and enjoyed them all but had my most success on bountyhunter. I liked to play all roles in league equally (though was bad at top and support) and would just like some tips here.
Memories are nice, but that's all they are

http://www.dotafire.com/dota-2/guide/the-lol-players-guide-to-playing-dota-2-1765
(Keep in mind I've never played LoL so I'm not sure if it's all that helpful!)
Start with this, I'll write more later c:

Edit: As far as heroes go I'd suggest trying them all out at least once, just to get to know them and perhaps their weaknesses.
After that the discussion of roles vs fun begins, some people just play their one hero, regardless of their team and the enemy team (I dislike this) you could learn a specific role, aka offlane, carry, utility support, hard support, mid roles etc and specify on heroes that excel in said roles. Bounty hunter for example is a good offlaner with great ganking skills and he counters some of the more popular heroes like riki, and while I'm not sure if it's official meta, nature's prophet.

There's always videos too, I watched like 100 of Purge's videos in a row, which teaches a lot but not everything, playing is always the best way! Sort of.

Hmm, what else...

You said you were a jungler back in LoL, most junglers in dota end up being supports / pushers but I guess Lycanthrope is an exception, Lifestealer too, check them out perhaps :-)
Guide to jungling: http://www.dotafire.com/dota-2/guide/jungling-101-what-you-need-to-know-935
(Not sure if outdated, but should hold some information at the very least!)

But yeah in short, read up on stuff, keep playing and hope you have fun :-)

Thanks for the tips! In LoL I played hyper carry ADCs that could turn anything to mulch in the late game, and supportive/tanky junglers who could feed those 'late game carries' early with thier strength but then tended to fall into innitiators (nautilus, jarvan, etc). So I feel like junlging won't be to much of a difficult task for me to transition into.

I'll look into some of this stuff and see, thank you :)

Hello, first of all, and welcome to the community! Enjoy your stay around here, and don't be shy to ask for help if needed.

As I've read in your post, you came from LoL where you enjoyed playing jungler and ADC.I have to dissapoint you a bit, jungling in DOTA 2 is more difficult than in LoL so you'll have to learn the basics first(not the basics of a Moba game, but the basics of Dota in general).

I see that all the heroes you played until have a good damage output and some of them also require some micromanagement skill, something that you don't find in LoL( Broodmother).

I would recommend you to try out some easier heroes, be it DPS-ers or Supports in general. The first thing you need to do is learn what each skill does, and learn the hero capabilities in general, since here, not every hero is a stereotype, and skills differ a lot in their effects.

I had noticed that, having played only a few games I had found several very... unique skills, ranging from just about anything, broodmothers spawn spiderlings and webs are something for example that you wouldn't really find on other heros.

Though I realize that the game itself is more difficult and complicated, I've walked around the jungle and found that I could probably figure it out, there are a few mobs that are much stronger and yeild more gold though shouldn't be taken on at lower levels, a few mobs that are weaker and yeild less gold, and the jungle layout isn't quite as complicated as I had thought, though still more complicated than league.

As for figuring heroe's and stuff out, I feel like I have a grasp of the basics enough to start trying some medium difficulty heroes, though nothing like invoker or the like.

thanks for the tips :) and thank you for the welcome!
