Been listening to a lot of Jack Johnson lately, his "In Between Dreams" album specifically. Good stuff.

Well I'm a fan of Metal-genres and Rock.

Some of my favorites:
Van Canto
- a german acapella(!) Metal band
- only uses a drum set because *quote* "beatboxin' to immitate drums is just rediculously bad and doesn't fit the metal genre" */quote*, everything else is purely made with their mouths! The "guitar solos" sound amazing :D
- even though they're german, all of their songs are in english (originals and covers) except one german song called "Neuer Wind" which roughly translates into "wind of change"
(also their female singer is pretty hot ;) )
Van Canto - If I die in battle

Alestorm
- Pirate Metal! YARRRRRR!!! Keelhaul this scoundrel! :D
Alestorm - Keelhauled

Linkin Park / Billy Talent / Green Day
- Your ordinary rock bands

Die Aerzte / Die Toten Hosen
- famous german rock bands

Also I don't get why all those rappers are famous or someone could like this kind of music (no offense guys, just my opinion) but... what is more epic?

- A group of people going into battle to fight for their rights or someone going into a shop and don't want to pay 50$ for a T-shirt?

- A song about beating your fears and findoing your way way in the world or something about someone who did drugs and other illegal stuff?

seriously... :D

Rap/Hip Hop isn't all about thrift shops or doing illegal things.

Kanye's new album Yeezus for example is actually really good, it about the artist expressing himself and his troubles. Much of it going into social stigmas and deeper into race issues, on top of it sounding good. You'll find that a lot of good rap does get pretty deep into that stuff, and even if it does tell a story about a life of crime, so what? It's often the environment the respective rappers were brought up in, and you'll find they're usually not advocating it but criticizing it and reflecting on their own youth, and point out that there are a lot of people that still grow up in that kind of society. My problem with metal is it just doesn't sound good to me. I don't like all the yelling.

Music comes down to what sounds good to you, that's the very essence of it, not what it's about. Classical music had no words to it, it was just pleasing to the ear. It's not about what is more epic, but even if it was, much of rap is based on reality while metal is fictitious or just expressing anger. Just my opinion. If it sounds good to you, who cares? People criticize pop music so much on the internet, but people like it because it sounds good, not because of the lyrics necessarily.

Yeah, I know that Atlas.

Everyone has his likes and dislikes... personally I can listen to almost anything, except those old german folk-music and rap... classic is awesome and relaxing! (Hell even game-music is awesome like the music from 'Final Fantasy series' and 'Metroid Prime series')

and since i didn't like it from the start this is everything i know of the current rapper-scene
(I was like: "WTF? Is he really singing about doing all that stuff?? Oh lord please, don't let anyone imitate that guy because he is becoming famous with THIS...")

but honestly... not doing such stuff should be common sense...

I don't smoke, I don't even drink any alcohol and I don't intent to start (and I'm 25) and haven't in the past, but that's off-topic :D

Don't let us go into a full grown out music discussion... we are here for some music :D
And now I'm going to bed with epic music in my head (already Thursday 1:30AM here in Germany :D )

This... this just made my day. :)

I found this recently, and though a bit unpolished, I found it quite entertaining and clever.
