He is not suitable to CM games.

Does the carry have an escape mechanism?
Does the carry have strong AoE presence?

In the current meta, carries need to have one or the other. Preferably both. Not a semi-melee carry who needs to kill himself to kill others, of which a BKB totally negates the Lifebreak damage.

OR they need to have a lot of lane utility and kill potential, like Chaos Knight.

But basically, yeah, Huskar is a strong pub hero, only because he is a snowballer. If he doesn't get fed early, he tends to not do much.

If you review the heroes chosen in recent tournie games, you may notice he is almost never used in captain's mode. He might be chosen as a screwball of the last 2 picks, but there's a 95% chance that won't happen. You can request to draft him if you want, but your captain's eyes will probably widen unless you are with inexperienced players.

Another serious problem huskar has is that many of the good carry items either don't work on ranged heroes, or work with diminished efficiency. Examples.... skull basher has a 25% chance to stun with melee, but only 10% with ranged. Helm of the dominator is unique, but so is his flame arrow skill, meaning you won't get lifesteal or extra damage from the helm when arrows are turned on.

He's not that great of a hero in general because he has to decrease his own health to reach maximum damage output.

Yeah he's just not commonly used for all the reasons listed...however you could look to build a team around him and that might catch the opposition out. You'd need to pick him last to maintain the element of surprise, but he's unlikely to be picked or banned anyway :)

He can be very effective with the right backup (heroes like Dazzle), and depending on the opposition line up - it's VERY situational though.

Reminds me a while back when a pro team picked Ursa with a lot of CC on the team, used his ridiculous CC to good effect and won some games until tactics adapted.
