So I've been doing some thinking about Troll Warlord. For the record, I'm not an amazing dota player, I've only been playing moba type games for about 3 years and I realize that most build guides you see for these heroes have been thought out since Dota 1, so please.... leave the sarcasm and bm out of this thread.

Troll excels when in melee mode if he's 1 v 1 vs most heroes assuming they dont have strong disabling nukes which is why it makes sense that you would want a bkb on him...as with most carries in competitive games. However, the thought occurred to me that troll while excelling as a melee carry vs structures and 1 v 1 or possibly 1 v 2 situations, when ganged up on the last thing you want to be is in your melee mode trying to fight the enemy team. In fact in team fights being melee is not that great because ur likely to be the first focused and will then be of no use. So until you have that unstoppable set of items your not gonna be very useful. I was thinking as your first item on troll you could go skadi (after boots of course), then build your bkb and instead of satanic get a heart/ butterfly for the survivabilty late game.

The reasons I choose skadi:
-orb of venom early on helps with last hits and harassing, its slow stacks really well with whirling axes.
- the skill build doesnt change, you still want to start off with 1 pt in rage (health increase and move speed increase are great for survivability in case of early ganks), and follow with maxing whirling axes and fervor and ult before q.
- in a 1 v 1 situation you can still melee and nuke them down, in a team fight situation you can sit safely in the back and apply a massive slow to herons.
- the stats boost is great for survivability, troll lacks a lot of health early on and can easily be focused down.
- even in melee mode skadi can slow them down enough for you to continuously hit them so you can bash.
- except for the cost i just dont see a drawback to getting it.
- you are more useful team fights earlier on.

so the item build i would do theoretically in my opinion would go something like this:
-ring of protection, tangos, salve, stats
-tranquil boots (you wont have lifesteal for regen), orb of venom, wraith band, and magic wand.
-phase boots, ring of aquala, orb of venom---> skadi eventually.
- bkb luxury---> heart, butterfly, deadalus.

These are just some thoughts. My goal is to make him more useful in a teamfight by keeping his distance and still doing lots of damage, while still maintaining his melee strength in the situation that arises.

Let me know what you guys think!

Melee lowers his BAT or base attack time so late game when you have almost 300+ attack speed you can attack more times melee than ranged
My lone druid starting items are 12 Iron wood branches, 6 for the hero and 6 for the bear. Even if the bear does not get stats more twigs are OP on any hero.

All you need is HotD and BKB to survive fights, he's extremely potent in out-putting the damage to heal back with HotD. You also gain HP, attack damage and has the ability to proc stuns in melee form, you also move with 30 more MS which makes you extremely mobile in fights, especially since a common pick up on him.

There's really no reason to optimize him for a ranged build, he's not a hero that is hurting, in fact he's excelling extremely well and can dominate in most team fights. Skadi is also a very bad item for him, he doesn't benefit from the INT and you're better off buying an MKB.
