This is a very, well, speculative query, but I am curious.

Lets say your in a pub or a tourney match and BAM your presented with a list of only heroes available you have NEVER played before.

Whattaya do, hotshot? What Do You Do?!

You don't have time to look up a guide, the match is ready to begin in 15 seconds, let alone read it.

annnnnd GO!
Cheers,

~DV

3 heroes I have never played before... sadly I had my hands on all of them be it either in dota1 or dota2, I'd probably go with the non-hard-carry one for sure, something supportive or semi-carryish

level up whatever type of disable/slow/escape the hero has at lvl 1 and max nuke first
Go now and spread the taint as I have shown you!

I always used to play just a few heroes, master them, and then move on to a few more. Have taken to just randoming these days and using whatever I get. After a while you should have a reasonable idea what a hero is meant to do, what items should be good on them etc, even if you've never played them before. Few goes to work out their attack speed/animation, and you're good to go!

Just avoid any heroes that have a very difficult playstyle/skillshots/massive micro - e.g. Chen or Meepo

read skills, remember past matches against or with this hero as ally, keep quiet, apologize if I suck.

Play support role. Plain and simple. No reason to screw up the game because of my ignorance.

I use the one with a skillshot, and complain about lag all game.

Jokes of course.

Just a crash course ability read. Obviously your build wont be optimal, but if you can at least get the skill sequence down, you will be on the right track. You'll have time to make an item build while you're playing.
