I'm a Noob

I am totally and completely fine with being new to a game and trying to get better. I played SC2 for 2 years never reaching anything higher than Gold league. I played regularly because it was fun and very competitive, there's really nothing else like it 1v1 IMO.

Anyways, I got my Beta key a few weeks ago. Having never played LOL or DOTA before I was totally new to the scene. Generally lost I picked heroes like Drow, because she was pretty easy to learn. Then when people started saying why aren't you ganking, you should be fully farmed already....WHAT!? I'm just shooting these little dudes that are trying to knock down our tower what's wrong with that?

Getting Better

Just as with SC2, I realized that there were pro games and videos that I should probably watch to learn some very basic mechanics that could make me a better player. So I watched a few games started reading this forum regularly and started playing against BOTs to get a handle on the game. I still struggle with the roles of each player and when I should leave my lane and go gank a player or help team mate being ganked.

Having said that though, it seems like everyone in my public games thus far are totally unaware of all these things too. People are constantly arguing and confused. Is this really how this game works? People just yelling/blaming each other the whole game? Seems like Halo/COD on Xbox live at some points.

Moving Forward

How do I continue to get better? I have been random picking players in all picks situations, in order to get familiar with all the heroes. Which has been working out fairly well. I've found out I can play support/carry, but I cannot tank or initiate (at least not with Tiny or Tide). So, other than random picking and continuing to play the game is there something I can do to help?
