So in my recent post about Bloodthorn on Morphling, Hamster mentioned something interesting to me.

However Bloodthorn synergizes best on heroes who have a native stun or who buy Scythe of Vyse on top of it.

It was quite interesting - the discussion quickly led to whether STR morphling for the stun was good...

but I thought to myself - so exactly why do we not pick Scythe of Vyse up on Morphling?

I mean, it has an Ultimate Orb, right?

and it fits well with Bloodthorn...

But here is the problem - item slots. In order to fit Scythe of Vyse into our morphling build, our final build would have to look something like this:

Boots of Travel. A necessity.
Manta Style. It's really good for pushing towers.
Eye of Skadi. Pretty much the best item for [[Morphling]
Black King Bar. A necessity.
Scythe of Vyse. ?
Bloodthorn. ?

You see, we don't have room for Butterfly. And I really like Butterfly on Morphling.

How 'bout you guys?

I saw some Morph in Manila main event, so I checked their builds in dotabuff (http://www.dotabuff.com/esports/leagues/4479?date=&hero=morphling&region=&duration=), and there was no one with Scythe of Vyze, even if the hero was picked some times.

No idea why, item seems situationally legit as far as I know, but this might help the analying, seems that pros prefer other stuff over it and it might be a good idea to think among other stuff why that is.

I agree with that build completely.

Yes, you skip Butterfly. Is it really necessary on the hero? He sits at 50 armor or something already, the highest in the game that you can reach with a good balanced build (buying AC and shivas on DK or other silly builds don't count).
He's already super resistant to physical damage. Do you really need evasion on top of this?

I think there's a bias on Morph players to go for stat items, when they could be going for damage items. Morph actually doesn't scale with stat items. If you don't have an Ethereal Blade, what does it change in a late game scenario that adaptive strike does 70 more damage because you have 35 more AGI?

Personally I always used to go for Daedalus over Butterfly on Morph. When you do the math, crit is actually almost twice as much damage increase as bfly on a full slotted Morphling. Crits just scale better than stat items.

I know it's kind of a tough choice and of course it depends of the game - but in games where you need a sheep, IMO it's the best build.

i think hex is just not picked up also cause people tend to look over it. Its a good situational item on him when you need extra lockdown like on almost any hero, but you have to keep it in mind.
Its mostly not as popular probably because the hero mostly starts the fight by going in with burst, hex in a lot of situations is just overkill to also throw on the hero if you can finish the target with one or two swings.

bloodthorn is kind of the same like that, it seems like an overkill **** you button most of the time, and with an eblade is easier to get damage out of it since you dont need to get hits in and hope it doesnt get dispelled. even if you dispell eblade the damage is already done.
