Nerfernaut has drifted from the meta for one reason: no more ministun on Omnislash. Also, the movespeed nerf actually hurts him quite a bit. It really hurts his chasing potential before he gets any form of lockdown such as Skull Basher

Spectre takes a while to come online through her passives, which are better the more hp and attack speed she has. Her main utility right now is the ability to participate in teamfights from anywhere, once she has her ult. unfortunately, as said before, she takes too long to come online.

Why is gyro popular right now? Because of the buff to Rocket Barrage. Removing it's cast point has made him one of the best heroes in the fame because he can now
-fight early(like, 0:00 runes early)
-farm very, very fast.... Insanely fast actually
-he has great teamfight and great solo kill potential.
All in all, he does everything we'll this patch. Heck, he can even support well!

On topic:
One hero I personally love to play that's pretty good right now is Lone Druid. The Radiance buff does him well, and after that he farms fast and pushes even faster. He naturally has lockdown and a steroid... As well as being decently tanky. If you learn how to micro two units(which isn't hard, just use the control groups 1-3 for him: 1=hero 2=hero and bear 3=bear) he can do well. He's also not bad early game, and has decent lane presence.

However, if I had to recommend ONE carry to you, I would recommend Slark. I love playing Slark. He's very flexible, he can fight well early, and he has natural sustain. He's pretty easy to learn, but he has a very high skill ceiling(try timing dark pact so you dodge lasso, huh?)

On the other hand, if your looking for a snowballing carry or mid, pick ember spirit. He fights early, farms decently fast after he gets his first battle fury, and there's nothing quite like being able to one shot the entire enemy team late game. Also, he has pretty sweet immortals

Or pick Weaver'against stun-nonexistent lineups and wreck. Ez game ez life
when a thing is done, it's done. Don't look back.

I also find Shadow Fiend as a solid pickup currently as he is popular in the competitive scene. The problem is I don't have much experience on this hero and i have seen many different builds for him recently( SY, Bkb rush, shadow blade, blink and even euls). Do you guys know what are the best builds/ play styles for SF? And any team lineups that would suite him?

SF is a good carry to learn imo, because he is so very flexible in his builds and where he fits into a team. Eul's blink is great for when there are many enemy roamers you could pick off, whereas a bkb butterfly build is more geared towards team fight where he needs to avoid being locked down and can use attack speed efficiently. Despite his many different item builds, he fits best into a lineup where supports can spend the time to stack and ward for him, as any early ganks will effectively remove him from the game. This means that poverty supports, I.e. wd, ww, and the like work very well with him, along with any initiating offlaners (mag, tide, clock) which can set up for the sf ultimate.

If anything id compare her to Bristle back.

Closest comparison you'll find, though Mercurial's really her own hero.

For everyone saying she needs a ton of items to come online, I'll point out the patent value build... Treads > Urn > HotD > Point Booster > Yasha. Dominate a Wildwing, stack camps, Tornado, roll in dosh. While being an aggressive player who is deceptively tanky.
There are two kinds of people in the world; those who can count, and those who can't.

SF is (and always was) a good hero in pubs...his recent rise of popularity in the competitive scene is mainly because of favorable meta changes. He is a strong nuker, snowballer and teamfighter, which makes him valuable in the early- and midgame. Although - as kkoopman already pointed out - he is very flexible in terms of itemization, i (personally) like his old-school Blink - BKB - Manta build. This makes him more into an aoe nuker than an actual carry, but with some extensions (like Butterfly, Daedalus and such) he can become a serious lategame threat.

Thanks to Presence of the Dark Lord he fits greatly into physical dps lineups, which kinda neglects his weakness to BKBs. Because of his good aoe power, its also a good idea to pair him with strong CC initiators.

Swaggerfiend is just awesome. The only problem is that you ought to not get caught up in the shadow fiend syndrome. (I tend to do that :|)

I'm gonna assume that I'm not the only person who has no clue what you're talking about and ask what shadow fiend syndrome is.

Shadow fiend syndrome must be something along the lines of being too cool for school, you can't handle my swag, win or go home.
