I love moba style games, but i'm not sure about the direction they're heading. I have several problems with LoL, but it is seemingly the only moba doing many gameplay innovations such as new maps and lasting rpg elements. From what I've seen of Dota 2 it looks super polished and beautiful, but not very different gameplay wise. Can we really declare essentially the first try at a genre perfect?

The act of polish denoted that what is being polished isn't perfect.

In other news by starting with polish it allows you to see other types of imperfections better.

DotA 1 was definitely not perfect but as the founder of a generation it deserves its own standing. In the same way that Mario games were iconic of platformers, so DotA is iconic of MOBA.
It's pretty damn perfect now imo. With upped graphics and new community-style stuff, its sexy. Every other game has taken from this, so it has to have something right =P

As well, you can't really judge right now since it's in beta. Valve games in particular support user created stuff, so maybe there will be user created maps with some sort of editor, or perhaps other mods with user created heroes. You never really know, but in valve's history, all their games become something bigger than what they start off as.

^ exactly what Atlas said. I'm REALLY REALLY REALLY looking forward for map editing tools. As old source mapper.
