DotA 2 Store Released!

The DotA 2 store was officially launched today. As many of you have expected, all the heroes in DotA 2 will be available to play, and the items available to purchase will be purely cosmetic. If you are familiar with Team Fortress 2's Hat system this will be very similar. I am very happy that Valve made this decision, since I agree that restricting which heroes players can access unbalances the game, and gives a more "pay to win" vibe.





Another exciting part of Valve's system is the Steam Workshop. Players can create and submit their own items for consideration to be put in the actual game. If a creation becomes popular enough it will become available for purchase in the DotA Store, and the creator will receive a cut of the profits. In the first year of the Team Fortress 2 Store Valve paid artists over 3.5 million dollars, and their contributions are permanently in the store. This is an awesome outlet for DotA's creative and talented users.

Valve's design of a well balanced game that involves the community is an excellent choice. These decisions make me even more excited for the actual DotA 2 release, and i hope all of you are too!

All heroes will be free, always, no unlocking required. It's been released by Valve as an official statement.

Quick question to those of you who have been busy playing since the store update:

Have any of you had a Mythical item awarded to you? I've seen Rare items, especially in the form of couriers, but I've yet to finish a match and see a Mythical awarded.

I'm not sure if they're just really rare (as they probably should be) or if they're only available if you pay for them.

I've only played one match since the update due to my busy schedule, and I won an item from it, so yes you can win them from matches.

Some random guy walked away from a pub I played with a Mythical Sven piece. Needless to say I was extremely jelly. I didn't manage to screenshot this, but I assure you that it can happen.
