Earth Spirit: The Counter to Pudge?

I've never played DotA on Warcraft 3. So people who played that more than me would know. Pudge is a hero feared at all levels. He is a hard man to counter. If you're on even levels, consider yourself most likely dead if he hooks you. But now they introduced Earth Spirit has Geo Grip, which can pull allies. So it's simple: Pudge hooks ally, Geo brings ally back.

Simple, no? I know this is possible but I want to know is if this is an effective strategy? I don't know the range of Geo-Grip (if it is less than Pudge's hook range), if it can go throw land like Pudge's hook can, etc...

It is quite decent, and geo grip's range I believe it's 1400?

I don't know about countering Pudge, but Geo Grip is a very useful technique for your team. I saved my laning partner from about six ganks :D

Or you can just Geogrip your partner out of the trajectory of the hook and just stop any chance of them getting decimated. Dismember continues to stun and go off regardless of where the target is on the map.

Not sure if it's a direct counter, a lot of heroes are countered by Earth Spirit simply because of how much CC he brings to the table while being really really tanky.

Clockwerk is also pretty good againt pudge. Battery assault does a lot of damage and makes dismember useless.
He also can burn his small mana pool with cogs. Also if you hook him he is screwed.
