Hello guys, this is my first post here after I lurked in the shadows as a guest for a while. So as you guys know, the Year Beast event dropped recently. I played a game of it, we won but it was kind of boring-2 people insta abandoned but we won. I got a common Lone Druid set with a mythical bear...too bad I don't play Lone Druid.

Anyways, a little background before I get into my question. First off, I'm in a pretty low level bracket-I myself am not very good but I like to think I play better than the other players I get matched with. But who knows, maybe I just suck. Next, my internet is...not very good(I get 100kb/s as my max download speed) so I can really only play when no one is using the internet which means I can really only play late at night or early in the morning(3 AM, EST). Lastly with the new item recycling feature I made a charm so I can predict games and get sets. But, the most reliable way to predict games is to have a stack and none of my friends are about to get up at 3 to play with me(maybe I have a problem). So I was wondering, what can I do to make a bigger impact on the game by myself. I know DotA is a team game but I can't always rely on my team to make plays or back me up when I initiate or support and buy wards. What role and what heroes should I play? Do you guys have any tips on picking, like counters or combos? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

If you are in low level games, then best thing I can suggest is play a fairly independant support (By which I mean you need say one core item or less to be effective) who can have massive game impact due to CC.

Buy and use wards to give the vision advantage, don't compete for farm (Meaning at least one core gets the chance to get good farm), be decisive and where possible call shots on the enemy.

A good play as a support like Lion, or Vengeful Spirit, Earthshaker or say Shadow Shaman can win fights, and entire games by yourself, without being detrimental by being a 5th core.

You'll still have games where despite your best efforts your team is just bad or outplayed. But there will also be plenty of times where you win games due to your efforts despite not getting credit for them.

That, or just find people here to play in a stack with so you have other competant players to play with.

Since you just can't have enough Chaos Breaker.

Thanks, so the theme is to pick a support that can operate on little farm and scales somewhat into late game. Venge scales really well and Lion, ES, and SS can offer stuns and control. Alright, I will try them out.

BTW if anyone plays at around 3 AM Eastern Standard Time, I don't know what that is in other timezones, and they don't mind helping out a newbie then here is my steam.

I find that when playing low level games that if you play a hero that can split push and take towers by them selves you can have a good game impact without having to communicate with team mates.

Personally i think that people on dotafire are a bit too fast at always recommending supports who can gank.
yes you can go gank stuff and i think its important that you learn to do that instead of aimlessly standing in lane with your carry, but its not the only way to have a high impact.

You can go the classic way by playing as a snowballer, getting good farm and kills around the map and generally having a high impact in the game by making your presence known. if you are confident with some of these heroes like Storm Spirit, Ember Spirit, Templar Assassin, Slark, Kunkka, Clinkz, Tinker

You can go with a good teamfight hero so you can rely on winning teamfights, but you will have to talk to your team, and they will have to be prepared to cooperate a bit. farm the sidelanes or maybe jungle your teamfight spell is down, and if the enemy doesnt have an advantage and your ultimate is up, try to rally your team around you so you can take an objective. do rush it and charge for a tower ofcourse, look for a good opportunity like an important enemy being out of position. Tidehunter, Omniknight, Warlock, Faceless Void and Brewmaster for example.

or go for a more forceful approach with a hero who DOES force the push. these heroes will probably automatically rally your team around you once they see your shiny pushing ultimate.
Death Prophet, Dragon Knight, Razor.

or if you possess bulldog genes, (which i do a little myself =D) you can also rat a bit. just make sure you dont leave your team 4v5 or farm all game. it also doesnt work if they have heroes who punish splitpush, most notably probably Storm Spirit and Spirit Breaker.
Lycan Nature's Prophet, Terrorblade and Tinker are the rat masters. although tinker doesnt take towers fast.
i would have said Morphling and Naga Siren, but they are pretty bad in pubs.

Carries not dependant on supports to get kills ( ones with stun slows and disables ) like Ember Spirit Phantom Assassin Phantom Lancer Slark and Morphling

Why not Dazzle? He's underplayed, and can single-handedly save carries with Shallow Grave, Weave, and Shadow Wave. People will be very happy that a Dazzle is on their team.

If you have sociable and smart teammates, then another good support option would be Oracle.

I gotta agree with Tim on this one, I don't think playing a support gets the effect that the OP wants. Sure with a powerful support you can do some big things... but if your Carry is stupid...sometimes the best Shallow Graves in the world won't make a difference. Especially in the current trend of longer games, supports can still just fall off.
I got to Notable, Thanks!

Thanks for all the replies, I was thinking I would have a couple go to heroes. Maybe Slark, DP, Lion, and Tide?

The only one I really disagree with is Lion there, I feel like he can be really easily countered, but that could change depending on your skill bracket.
