Runic Knight

Lore: Zwei is known as the gaunt coward knight who ran from his doomed kingdom. He wandered the Blasted Plains hungry for purpose and redemption. Upon learning of a besieged village, Zwei rushed forward only to be greeted by an undead host unlike he had ever seen before. Losing his will he turned and ran once more, through the forest and into a river where he stumbled upon a blade cast into glowing crystals. The blade whispered to him, drawing Zwei closer and closer. Gripping the hilt, Zwei pulled, then siezed at the jolt of energy coursing through his veins. His body and power grew as the blade's mysterious symbols shimmered. Caladbolg, the blade of legends, had lay dormant seeking a worthy master, but now found itself gripped by a man of weak will. As the blade bound itself to Zwei, it erased his mind and soul. Thus a new being was born. A man with no purpose, driven only by the primal instinct of battle that lay within his blade.

Role: Carry, Disable, Nuker

Hero Description: Zwei, the Runic Knight, is a flexible melee strength hero whose power is unlocked through his Rune system. He can fulfill various roles but will often be played as a midlaner or carry due to his reliance on levels and items to deal tremendous amounts of damage. He carries a versatile skillset aimed at controlling enemies and disrupting combat so he may build and unleash Runic energy. Reverb Strike helps Zwei stand unopposed in single combat while helping to build up his energy. Runic Smite and Runewave control groups of foes and allow Zwei to deal heavy damage without fear of retaliation. Upon building his energy, Zwei unleashes his skills' true potential to further eclipse the gap between his enemies and himself. Though he relies on the support of his team to control the early stages of battle, they can rely on Zwei to end the fight decisively.

Zwei's blade Caladbolg grows in power with every swing against an enemy hero, storing excess energy and releasing it at Zwei's leisure. Up to a maximum of 5 Runes (10 with Aghanim upgrade) and are consumed to empower Zwei's base skills. Runes otherwise provide stat bonuses. Pressing the ability key followed by activation of a skill will consume runes if available to trigger the Rune Activated version of the chosen skill.

Playstyle

Zwei is designed as a carry or a midlaner that aims to take long, sustained fights where he can maintain a high Rune count to keep dishing out the upgraded abilities. He works well with heroes that specialize in locking down foes or preventing escapes. However, he does suffer from the same problems that plague Sven, in that ranged heroes can easily kite him and skill mismanagement can get Zwei killed very easily.

Items that would fit Zwei's playstyle would augment his mobility, lockdown or Right click potential.

Mobility: Phase Boots, Blink Dagger, Shadow Blade
Lockdown: Basher, Orchid, Nullifier, Shivas Guard
Right Clicks: Daedalus, Bloodthorn, Mjollnir

The bread and butter combo would be to build at least 5 Runes and use Rune Activated Runewave into Rune Activated Runic Smite. This would slow, silence, and disable the enemy long enough to build additional Rune charges to either repeat the combo or settle in the for the sustained fight with a Rune Activated Reverb Strike.
