Percival

Magus of Steel

ROLE: Carry, Nuker, Disabler

HERO DESCRIPTION: Percival, the Ensis Magus, is a melee intelligence hero who's distinct method of fighting sets him apart from other semi-carries in the game. His most important skill, Dancing Blades, allows him to attack multiple foes from afar, or concentrate all his firepower on one enemy. Dancing Blades is the backbone of Percival's other skills and only grows in power the more items Percival collects. Though fragile, Percival can fend for himself through the passive ability Mind's Eye, which deals damage in an area around him per second, while also reducing his mana usage. Blade of Crowns is a secondary defense against any enemies who stray too close to Percival. The ability only grows stronger the more Dancing Blades are targeting the unfortunate enemy. Percival's ultimate, Gate of the Lost Isle, fires swords of pure magical power to slash through his enemies. Though difficult to aim, the spell quickly builds in destructive power against units that are hit consecutively. Percival requires patience, battle awareness, superior positioning and solid mechanics to play with massive payoffs. Percival's potential scales with the player's abilities and items, and can overpower foes with the right approach.

LORE

As a young steward of the Insubstantial Eleven, Percival would have never dreamt of surpassing the haughty Grand Magus. Watching his mentors fall one by one rendered helpless by their own magic, Percival knew that he could not rely on his mind alone. Seeking balance, he traveled the Ivory Isles eventually landing on the fabled Isle of Masks. There he honed his craft, melding mind and steel, tempering both his magic and his might. What emerged decades later was a being with peerless mastery over an endless torrent of mystic blades. A challenge to the son of Aghanim was a challenge to the authority of magic itself and as magic and steel flew, Percival ground the match to a stalemate. He took pride in knowing that he had avenged his fallen mentors. However, that pride was short lived when he learned that the Isle of Masks had erupted in a torrent of vengeful magic. Percival gathered his mind and blade once more, to cut down his sworn enemy.

EXPLANATIONS AND PLAYSTYLE

Percival's Dancing Blades look like floating swords of all shapes and sizes, revolving around the targeted unit and attacking every so often.

Percival's Dancing Blades can be stack casted. Pressing Q and choosing a target sends one blade. Pressing Q twice and choosing a target sends two blades, etc. Percival can also continually send new Dancing Blades to an enemy already afflicted by it.

Dancing Blades recharge even though swords are being used. You could theoretically, with enough mana, have 8 blades out at max level, and recall them all then send 8 more out again.

Mind's Eye appears as swords of light revolving around Percival. At maximum Sword Charges, Percival is doing a disgusting 200 damage per second in an AOE around him, but loses this damage over time as he loses Sword Charges.

Gate of the Lost Isle does not trigger attack modifiers.

Gate of the Lost Isle is activated with the unused Sword Charges. If 3 enemies are being targeted by one sword each from Dancing Blade, Gate of the Lost Isle would have 1 sword to fire.

PLAYSTYLE:
Percival is a high damage glass cannon like Sniper. He should never be the first in a fight, and without an escape Percival is weak to enemies that can close gaps. Percival has the luxury of building purely for damage like Windranger, requiring little by way of attack speed.

Percival thrives with allies who have potent slows or stuns such as Venomancer or Crystal Maiden. Lockdown lets Percival lay the damage on over time. Percival also works well with saves and counter initiators, since he will be a prime target with the damage he can put out.

Possible items choices for Percival include the following:
Maelstrom/Mjollnir: Proc lightning on Dancing Blade with the talent.
Crystalys/Daedalus: Crits would apply to Dancing Blade and the flat damage boost is utilized as well
Bloodthorn: Silences to prevent escapes and provides a critical strike as well
Skadi: Survivability and a movement speed slow to keep enemies locked down
Diffusal Blade: Slow enemies with purge, burn their mana
