I love playing a Drow, as her last hitting ability at range is really great, and she can be such a devastating late-game carry. However I have had a lot of trouble getting the hang of how to play her effectively in a lane, and I feel like when I do play her well in a lane, it was luck. I want to know what experienced players think. Side-lane with a baby-sitter? Solo-mid? Trilane? Please help. I'll add that I am a bit of a noob at times, DOTA 2 is my first exposure to the genre, but I have logged 150 hrs on the game so far and have a winning record so I have learned a lot already. Help! But be gentle...

As solo mid she's a good harassing hero with her frost arrows and can kill intellect heroes in silence. She's also a good side lane with someone like dazzle who can keep her alive as well as open up peoples armor with his slow, making drow's frost arrow attacks deadly. if you have a friend have him go dazzle with you as drow in lane and have him skill up his Q and you should do quite some damage. GLHF!

Any time you can harass, even if its one hit, and not miss any last hits or denies you should do it. If you can leave your lane opponent at 60-70% life they cant go aggressive on you safely. As Drow you dont really need to win your lane as you will probably carry harder than whoever you lane against.

Thats just a general tip though and isnt specific to lane. She can function pretty well in any lane but I personally am not a fan of her mid because her ganking/rune presence is pretty weak.

Drow is a weak solo laner due to the fact that she doesn't have a stun and doesn't benefit from early levels. She doesn't really fit in the current style of game because it takes a long time for her to get relevant items and she often needs to grab a BKB before getting a big damage item like Manta or Butterfly.

That being said, she probably would do best in a farming trilane or a safe dual lane. Good players will target you for ganks and in fights, so keep that in mind and pay attention to your minimap.

I appreciate the responses. Thanks. It seems to me like she CAN operate in most different lane situations, I think that I just need to get better at learning how to play her to fit my style. I think for me I would need to take a side lane with a Dazzle.

I only played Drow Ranger once in Dota2 and did 12/1/12 with her and level 25.
I did not care about my lane as soon as people started to push and defend they forgot about me. I was solo laneing for 15-20 minutes. They had low hp heroes and relayed on spell casting so i maxed out silence first and aura.
As items did: Buriza, Satanic, Shadow Blade, Power Treads.
I joined the battle with PowerTreads, Cristalis and Shadow Blade + Level 4 silence so that made Lion & Lina kind of useless as me and Anti-Mage were bringing a lot of pain tot he table.
Maxing arrows in this game would have been suicide because Lion ulti + Lina ulti bbye drow:))
But to answer I for one don't carry about the lane, because when they start to go gang, push, def I always look for the empty lane to farm and why not the forest:D Even if they will kill your teammates and will get your towers if you farm right in team fights in late you will do some damage.
P.S.: you don't need a BKB, just tell your team to go take the damage and you will use silence and then select the low hp heroes so that you remain many vs their carry.
