HotD all the way - get fast HotD and stack hard camp 3-4 times, then do the same with the other hard camp and medium camp, then when you have 1-2 lvls in W you can clear them like a beech while stacking ancients. Fast farm gaming.

Can't imagine any situation where MoM would be advisable. It's the same thing as those MoM/Basher builds I used to see a lot on Riki/Slark - good for laughs and stompy games but fails hard when the opposition is smart and makes you priority #1.

Helm is not picked up (or shouldn't be) for the lifesteal, it's for ancient stacking and the ~200 GPM boost that comes with it.

In my opinion, MoM is a situational pickup on a Luna.. But I would prefer a HotD 9/10 times.. Here are my reasons..

1. Being a squishy hero already (without the BKB/Manta), the extra damage in MoM can easily kill you in teamfights. If you aren't activating it in teamfights, you might survive, but then, what's the point of the item? It can be a farming item to jungle fast, but seeing as Luna can clear camps pretty darn fast already, I don't see why I'd want an MoM.

2. HotD allows you to stack camps/ancients. If I see a Luna player getting an HotD and not dominating a creep, I strongly restrain myself from slapping them in the face.

3. HotD builds into Satanic, a late game luxury item for Luna that makes you pretty much unkillable.

4. If you were picking MoM for farming, you could have instead built a Yasha, which helps you farm faster, and a Yasha builds into Manta Style eventually, which is core on Luna. Again, no reason to go MoM.


That being said, one of the cases where I would go for MoM is if I'm playing in a more pushing oriented situation, and don't find myself in teamfights often. In that case, the MoM can help push out the lane really fast. However, it is a risky situation since you need to be constantly aware of ganks.

MoM is only for when you need burst damage and your out of harms way, its stupid on almost every hero really, nooby voids get it and thats not terrible, not great idea. The only place its legit is situational on SB

I also build MoM on ganking furion sometimes along with my dagon, mid game heroes alone just melt :S


But yah, Helm is way better, whenver I see pro lunas getting MoM I cry and ask myself why pros seem to make so many stupid item choices

MoM best item on Drow and Sniper!
On Luna its almost only usefull, if you are almost only splitpushing and/or need to catch up on farm.

I really detest MoM for several reasons. But soon oracle will be in dota 2 to deny that.

Helm of the Dominator builds into the very core Satanic late, whilst allowing you to stack camps without being in attendance, and pick up a powerful +30% Attack buff in the mid game.

Luna is one of those carries that can teamfight early, and still transitions well into late, and HotD synergises so well with this. Mask of Madness has its uses, especially for clearing waves fast, but with her glaives I think this is achieved fast anyway. The other benefit of movement speed is useful, but with Drum of Endurance usually built on her anyway, I feel she's quick enough for the most part.
