Kisayi

The Sea Vengeance

Kisayi, the Sea Vengeance

Kisayi is a member of the Demons of Cataract. Her father, Akuta, fought in the second battle of Trembling Isle against Kunkka and the Claddish Navy. Her father was killed during the battle when Tidehunter summoned the god Maelrawn to destroy both the Cataract and the Claddish fleets. Kisayi found her father's ship washed ashore and vowed revenge for her people's death. Kisayi became known as the Sea Vengeance, sailing the oceans and hunting for the heads of Kunkka and Tidehunter.

Playstyle

Kisayi is a very versatile strength hero that excels in crippling her enemies while dishing out massive damage herself. She can be played as a Utility Offlaner or an excellent Safelane core. Below are the two example builds and play styles.

Pros
    Great Teamfight
    Pushes Well
    Aura/Utility Heavy Hero
    High Damage Output
    Fairly Tanky
Cons
    Low Magic Resistance
    Low Mobility
    Lack of Lock down
Does not scale well into late game

Utility Offlaner

Kisayi's offlane build is funny enough very similar to that of Tidehunter and Beastmaster. Her Grape Shot allows her to push waves relatively fast, especially with the Lv. 15 talent combined with the damage and burning buffs from Burning Rage. Her Bête Noire allows her to dominate the offlane by reducing harass damage from the enemy safelane carry and support while also forcing spell harassing heroes such as Ogre Magi and Disruptor to buy more regeneration than usual.

Starting Items

Since Kisayi is ranged and enemies do reduced damage from Bête Noire, a stout shield is not necessary. The Tangoes give health regeneration, the Iron Branches give early stats and can be built into Magic Wand, and the Orb of Venom allows Kisayi to zone the enemy Safelaner and deal DOT until she obtains her Burning Rage.

Core Items
>> >> >> >> OR
Kisayi's item builds and mid-game all focus on her Burning Rage and Chain Shot. The Phase Boots and Blink Dagger allow Kisayi to initiate and pursue fleeing enemies with Grape Shot. Aghanim's Scepter turns Kisayi into a team-fighting monster, offering additional movespeed, damage, and damage over time to her entire team without any penalty. Pipe of Insight helps cover one of her greatest weakness, magic damage, while also making her a walking Aura monster. Assault Cuirass is an optional item if physical damage is a greater concern. The additional attack speed from Assault Cuirass along with Burning Rage turns her into a tanky, high-damage, right-clicking core.

Safelane Carry

Kisayi's safelane build is very similar to that of Sniper and Windranger. She can dish out enormous amounts of damage since she is a ranged strength hero. Burning Rage is her big damage output and she depends on heavy physical damage. Chain Shot gives Kisayi the lock-down she needs to nuke her opponents with Grape Shot and high DPS. Grape Shot also allows Kisayi to farm quickly along with farming items such as Maelstrom.

Starting Items

Kisayi's early game revolves around her getting farm and obtaining a quick Shadow Blade. The Tangoes give her health regeneration while the Wraith Band offer her some damage and armor. Despite her being a strength hero, Wraith Band is still useful as it will be built into Hurricane Pike later.

Core Items
>> >> >> >> >> >>
Magic Wand gives Kisayi sustainability in lane while Power Treads give her additional damage and mana when switched. Shadow Blade allows Kisayi to pick-off enemies by using Grape Shot from point-blank range, similar to Shadow Fiend's magical build. The Maelstrom allows Kisayi to farm incredibly fast as Grape Shot can proc modifiers. Hurricane Pike gives Kisayi extra mobility and range since her attack range is fairly low. Mjollnir and Monkey King Bar are luxury items that let Kisayi attack faster and harder while still being fairly tanky. Black King Bar is heavily recommended if the enemy team has lock-down, preventing Kisayi from dishing out damage.

Quotes

Allies meeting Kisayi

"Ahh, you aren't the only who strikes fear."
"Who invited the scalawag?"
"Watch where you are going, ocean walker!"

Enemies killing Kisayi

"I can get angrier!"
"Stay off the seas, pal."
"Hmm, thanks for the treasure Missy!"
"Chill out, will ya?"
"I helped your father, but I see it was a mistake!"
"You aren't that tough! I wasn't even trying."
"Burn in the depths, demon"
"I think I'm going to keep my head today, demon-spawn."
"These oceans are mine. Stay off."
"First Akuta, now you. Very well, I'll defend until the end!"
"Nice try, but I'm made of fire."
"My gun is bigger and better!"
"Looks like you didn't see the storm coming!"
"See? I told you the water mines work!"
"Some demon you are. Stay home, child."
"I'll send you back to the depths like your father!"
"Oh look, lunch is served!"
"The ocean is no place for a lost child!"
"Nice fleet. Oh wait, it's at the bottom of the sea!"
"What's wrong? Got scurvy? Hahaha."
"Nice try, faker."

Enemies dying to Kisayi

"I'll be back, demon!"
"No! Not like this."
"The ocean will remember this, child!"
"Maelrawn, I need your help!"

So, how do you format the heroes and items in?

I like the concept of Grape Shot + Burning Rage. But I spotted a big balance problem : Grape Shot, at point blank range, is equivalent to 1000% critical hit at level 7!? My goodness. your putting Requiem of Souls to shame. And imagine adding Javelin / MKB in this... +500 to average damage. Make it stay at 4 bullets. 4 bullets are enough to clear a creepwave, 4 bullets are enough to deal significant hero damage. It doesn't need to scale since your attack damage already scales to begin with.

Next, Bête Noire feels random. But it's okay, I guess. But wouldn't it make much more sense if it activate on Kisayi's attacks instead of being an aura? This way, you can buff it a little, Grape Shot synergizes with it now, and it won't be just a subverted Underlord aura.

Cataract Assault is just Ravage copycat? Why did you decided on that ultimate? You might get minus points in originality category.

Thanks for the feedback. You are correct in that Grape Shot would absolutely obliterate at lv.7, and so I may re-balance it so that each shot does reduced damage, such as 60% damage reduction, very similar to Windranger's damage reduction with Focus Fire.

The concept of Bete Noire was to make her more utility based, although I am still figuring out how to synergize a passive into her skill build.

Cataract Assault is very similar to Ravage, so I may try to either add cast range and edit its properties, or switch out the ultimate ability with another idea I had.
