Hello for people who don't know me. I'm Devampi from Smitefire and also show a bit of activity on dotafire I do play all of the 3 games. Now that the small introduction is out of the way let's get to the point of this thread. I'm very curious what the people of moba- dota and smitefire think which of these 3 games in which other will have the biggest amount of unique players over several years. And know why you guys think that this would be the order of biggest amount of players

I hope many of you understand that I don't want people getting in the famous Dota vs LoL war.

Also here is my own opinion on my questions:
I'm going with 1.smite 2.LoL 3. Dota 2

why well because imo smite has the biggest potential on growing a big community with their xbone support (and it will maybe even grow to the ps). this is the reason I think smite can overgrow LoL.

well LoL is second because it's more known And it's IMO easier to learn then Dota. but this was a hard choice because I don't know what the effect of the new Dota 2 engine will have on the growth of Dota 2

why Dota so low well as stated by LoL it's harder to learn for most people (steeper learning curve). still as said there the dota reborn. and with those custom game modes it's not clear how hard it will grow.

So yeah that's my take on my question so how do you guys think over this question. I will probably post some sort of end result after several time (a week maybe 10 days idk yet)

note I'm posting this on all 3 forums so people who thought the introduction is weird here is why

So let me guess: This is another disguised attempt for fandoms to beat the living **** out of each other. Ugh. Please leave, your logic is completely fallible.
Smite with the largest community? It's not like Smite is some NEW, unrecognized game that NO ONE has ever heard of but when they do it will be celebrated and super popular. Smite has been around for a while now, and if people aren't already flocking to Smite now I doubt they will in the future. Anyway, I believe that...
this argument is pointless.

Well, the results are already here but if you want to say something in the near future then I would just wait. This type of comment is very common among insecure players that play whatever they play.

I disagree, being on consoles will definitely help but to say it'll outgrow LoL or even Dota2 is so far out the reach. Considering there is no CROSS-PLATFORM play.

This is what I don't like about opinions like this, regardless of which game you play both games are hard to get into. Why? The account leveling in League is only a filter to a certain extent to give you an idea of how to play relative to similar account levels... in a perfect world. It's like everybody's mmr is set to a certain number (in this case we'll use 1000) but only after hitting level 30 is when you can make some progress with your account.

However, anybody starting League up without playing with friends will have a hard time since there are a **** ton of smurfs and there is still a lot of information to retain. Samething in Dota2, players who are new are overwhelmed with the number of options since ALL the heroes are free and they wouldn't know what to choose. That's why Reborn made sense to a lot of players, not just in the Dota2 community but the gaming community as a whole. Somebody can make a tutorial if they want using the Source2 Hammer tool and if players don't want to play a competitive game of Dota then they have options to play custom games. Overthrow, the custom game from Valve is very good and is incredibly polished. I wouldn't be surprised if players introducing friends start off with Overthrow for about couple of games to get an idea of mechanics.

I'm surprised you left out Heroes of the Storm considering that game should be a big contender for Smite. My rankings would be Dota 2 > LoL > Smite >= HotS. The longevity that Dota already has and will continue to have in the Source2 engine is more enough to keep it fresh. Along with Valve backing it up with big events like "The International", the upcoming "Majors" and the legendary Icefrog is what makes this ranking the way it is.

Once source 2 goes live, DOTA will last the longest I imagine. Because it will be one of the few sources of entirely free modding and game design within an existing engine around, and that's huge. You'll probably get entirely new huge games come about from it, kinda like DOTA did from WC3. That and Valve have the most long lasting f2p system. As well as greater ease of access due to source 2's features.

LoL will probably be the second longest just based off of it's current popularity.

Since you just can't have enough Chaos Breaker.

only thing I'm going to say is learn to read.

I'm going to agree with you Nubtrain I'm probably putting the console support in a very high value (and forgetting LoL 70 mil unique players a month). Why I didn't include HotS is more because I myself don't know how big it is. Still I do believe it can overtake dota (if the 10 mil smite players is their amount of unique players a month then they are getting close to dota) still I don't know how much of an impact reborn is going to make (as the custom game modes is a huge thing). It does depend on what game modes and quality of them are made.

smite has less then 5 million accounts with of them only 3.8ish are active. "from 2 months ago"

Dota has 11 million active accounts and close to 15-16 million accounts in total. "today"

LoL has something stupid like 67 million per month but they have been shown to comp farm for more accounts. so realistically it would be around 40 million. but they wont say how many are "active" so ehhhh "3-4 months ago"

in terms of popularity based upon those numbers you have LoL>Dota2>Smite

in terms of prize money you have Dota2>LoL>Smite

i think the dota community is more flush because instead of being forced to buy heroes to play them dota players can just save there money for HATZZZ which means bigger prize pools... this leads to a more involved viewer base imo

but yea smite is falling off hard in the last 4 months the active accounts declined by 300 000 and the new accounts opening declined by 7-8% from last month "apparently"

so in reality Smite is losing ground and may very well end up being a HoN clone in that it burns brightly briefly but is now nothing but embers.

the release into the console market may help smite hold its place in the MOBA hierarchy but they need to release a major content and graphics update or just reskin the whole thing to make it more appealing in this high GPU generation.

actually they should be rebuilding certain parts of the game as it is considered pretty broken (it was broken in S1 but less noticeable with changes S2 we have seen a lot of weird stuff) with things like the guardian-adc meta. even a pro made a 3 article blog of it. plus HR being greedy with putting stuff in treasure chests of 4$ with only 1/50 change you get the item you want)

also smite did grow pretty fast if they have now passed the 10 mil total (at least. or HR is lying XD.).

Also the reason I like dota free stuff or combining skins.

(small question how is riot funding their WC I know Smite and Dota 2 use crowd funding)

remember that 10 million accounts is not "10 million active"

they have like 4 million active. so thats still pretty much nothing in comparison to the others.

I don't know why there is no HoN in there. I think they're grab people from dota, lol, and smite. In the end, their community will end up bigger than all of these Mobas.
