Oracle's Lore

Ascendants to the Great Seat of Cymurri had for ages imported their Oracles exclusively from the Ivory Incubarium, high in the hollow peaks of the Zealot's Range, with a downpayment made at the time of the embryo's conception and the balance surrendered on delivery of a mature, well-trained prophet to the Gate of the Graven King.
Raised by same Pallid Sybils who bred and birthed them, all sanctioned Oracles were anchored by their physical form to the world we most of us share; meanwhile, their souls roamed far afield, barely bound by the airiest astral umbilicus. From such cosmic roamings the prophets would return, speaking words of fire with tongues of flesh. Their mystic utterances were analyzed by the Cymurri Advisors, who found in them visions of the future, diplomatic advice, all the supernatural ammunition the line of Graven Kings needed to secure victory in every campaign, whether in the court or on the battlefield. Thus it went for generations, the Graventome's pages filling with the names of triumphant kings and the new domains they had acquired. So it went, that is, until the particular Oracle named Nerif arrived to serve the very last of the stone-helmed kings.

From the first, Nerif's prophecies were unusual. They seemed not merely to portend the future, but to shape it. The weird soothsayer croaked out advice no one had requested, and suddenly the Cymurri found themselves immersed in conflicts with newfound enemies. The Advisors, sensing a threat to their power, were quick to pin these unwelcome developments on the latest Oracle. They demanded his removal, petitioning the Sybils to reclaim their defective prophet and replace him with a worthy substitute. But Nerif described an ominous dream of the Incubarium's destruction, and within hours came news of the ancient school's destruction in a catastrophic avalanche. Fearing the same fate as the Pallid Sybils, the Advisors withdrew to their counsel chambers, suddenly anxious to avoid the Oracle's notice. The Graven King, however, was a creature of great practicality. He doubted the commitment of his overprudent Advisors. An Oracle of such rarity, he reasoned, ought be used as a weapon to enlarge his domain. He therefore demoted his timid counselors and stationed Nerif at his side. With only a blunt understanding of Nerif's talent, he boldly stated the outcomes he desired, and coaxed Nerif into uttering his wishes as prophecy.

At first, all was well. The Last Graven King boasted that by adopting Fate's pet, he had made a plaything of Fate itself. He should have taken it as a warning then when, on the eve of his invasion of the Unsated Satrap's realm, he attempted to coerce a prediction of certain victory from his Oracle, only to hear Nerif quietly mutter, "It could go either way." No firmer statement could he force from Nerif's lips. Still, the King was confident in his army. The Satrapy was landlocked, poorly armed, and shut off from all possible allies. He took "It could go either way" to indicate that with tactical might on his side, there was little risk in his plan.

Of course, we now know that he should have taken the sayer's words more literally. Even with careful study of the Annotated Annals of If, what happened on the field before the Unsated Satrap's palace is almost impossible to visualize. It appears that in the midst of the carnage, the battle began to bifurcate. At each pivotal moment, reality calved and broke into bits. Soldiers who staggered and fell in battle also stood sure-footed, forging onward to fight. Their minds also split; the warriors found themselves both dead and alive, existent and non-existent. Victory and defeat were partitioned, so that each separate outcome was experienced in simultaneity by both armies. The universe became a hall of mirrors, with all the mirrors endlessly shattering.

The immediate effect on both parties was insanity. Unable to comprehend the state of being both triumphant and defeated, the Graven King's mind dispersed into motes of madness. The naive Satrap fared no better. The opposing paired realities continued to split and split again, echoing into infinite histories, all of them populated by a bewildered populace that soon lost the ability to feed, clothe, defend, or reproduce itself in the traditional manner.

Long before the repercussions had played out, however, Cymurri's wary Advisors had seized Nerif, bound and gagged him, and launched him out of their universe at high speed on a dimensional barque, in the hopes of depositing him where he could do them no harm forever. It was, of course, too late for them. And may well be for us.

Oracle will definitely be changed soon; the way players have been reacting to his release reminds me of the way players reacted to Earth Spirit's release, and Earth Spirit was nerfed almost immediately due to him be somewhat clearly overpowered.

That being said though, I love Oracle. He isn't the kind of hero I usually play (I generally play semi-carries like Templar Assassin and Legion Commander, but I really enjoy using Oracle. Using his combos takes a bit of skill but he isn't too frustrating to learn, not to mention that being able to heal your teammates and nuke down your enemies equally effectively makes him a very useful hero. He can also fill most roles and/or lanes, from being a carry in the middle lane to being a support in the side lanes.

his ult kinda has a 11 second cooldown before he can use it on your carry again pretty much making carry unkillable for a teamfight hes kinda held back by mana but items couter that pretty easy 1 thing im wondering dous bkb block the damage from the end of his ult if it dous then ya hes overpowered completely

Ya he's not gonna be a carry. Like the other guy said he is like a dazzle, venge, abbadon, omniknight type support. He will need levels and gold to be really effective, and doesn't have lane sustain like a lion or other 3 star supports.

He is not OP, this guy is squishy, the only thing that keeps him alive is his skills. His counters can be those heroes with mixed damage, pure damage, orb walkers, and physical spells. If you want to be specific, it can be Meepo, Axe, Rexxar, Lone Druid, Centaur, Treant, Shredder, Viper, etc. His only real weakness is vision, he is just like the other heroes that die on nukes and critical attacks. The only reason most say he is OP is because they don't understand how his last skill works, just beat the guy more than his heal with full of nukes and criticals. Some people argue he is invulnerable, they are wrong, don't nuke the guy if it is disarmed with his 2nd skill, he is ofcourse, 100% resistant to magic, but he is also 50% more in danger of criticals. What meakes this hero unique is his different combinations with only just 4 skills. He is only a typical intelligence hero that always focus on how to be flexible, just like most strength heroes that focus on being brutal, and agility heroes being naturally cunning. Like I have said, he is a JUST hero, JUST like Rubick (counters + creativity), Invoker (stats + 10 spells), and Silencer (an int type that is seriously good at having good "stunless" disables with draining mana, stealing ints, disarm & silence and probably the only int type that focus on normal attacks with pure damage? INSANE because int types are known to be nukers more than being disablers, but he is literally more dangerous with his normal attacks than his own spells)... And some other heroes that I didn't mention. He is going to have many rivals, but I don't think he is going o be a carry, but more on a lane support, a roamer or a semi-carry. In my opinion, he is a super fast early gamer just like phoenix that can dive and dive and kill and kill and survive effortlessly but becomes less effective in late game. Early gamers like this hero are different from late gamers like N'aix, Sven, PL, etc.

Tiny, Timbersaw, almost Lina, outworld destroyer, Shadow Fiend, etc. can all do the "op" 1020 damage over 3 seconds that Oracle does at level 8; and they all scale significantly better.

As a lane support, hes going to be trash if you do that 4/0/4/0 build that you suggest.


If he does a decent build, hes still going to be less useful than an abaddon or dazzle.
50+(55/70/85/100) mana cost to heal 99/198/297/396 health. he only has 299 mana at level 1.
Still no real CC besides a disarm; amplifying physical damage in lane isn't going to do much good without something to keep them in place and prevent them from casting.

False Promise is decent at best; the invis is countered easily by sentry and dust, can also (i think) be purged with Diffusal Blade. The cooldown is 5 seconds longer than Shallow Grave, but lasts 4 seconds longer at max level...Its not bad by any means, but being countered by a rather cheap item isn't exactly good.
I can't get on to test but http://dota2.gamepedia.com/Purge doesn't say False Promise can't be purged.

Its easy to theorycraft Oracle into some super OP broken hero, but then you realize hes really held back by mana until the midgame when his nuke damage becomes significantly less important and his lack of hard CC becomes apparent.

he fits into a really awkward "kinda support but also needs items/fast levels to be useful"

I mean, are we not going to say anything about his whole being?

First skill: 300 damage for up to 3 seconds purge
Second skill: Basically Amplify Damage + Repel
Third skill: 360 damage nuke with 100 MP cost and THREE SECONDS cool down, OR 400 HP heal (free urn)
Ultimate skill: 9 seconds invulnerability + Shadow Dance

In level 8 (if he max first and third skill without ult), he can do this: Purifying Flames, instantly purges with Fortune's End, wait 3 seconds cd off then Purifying Flames again. This simple combo can deal 1020 damage in level 8 with just 340 MP cost, with extremely quick cool down (I'm talking 3 and 12 seconds cool down combo that deals 1020 damage). This is as strong as Laguna Blade COMBINED with Finger of Death at that level. This is simply his early level nuke combo.
