Introduction

Hello everyone. In this guide, I will try to pass on any knowledge I have, that might help you in learning how to play Ursa. Keep in mind, this is not a guide on how to play this hero competitively, but rest assured you will be able to use the knowledge in this guide, in more advanced games. Also please note that this is not an absolute guide on how to play this hero, there are other guides out there that might disagree with some of the things you will find here. With that being said, let's begin...

Main Info

Ursa Story

Ulfsaar the Warrior is the fiercest member of an ursine tribe, protective of his land and his people. During the long winters, while the mothers sleep and nurse their cubs, the males patrol the lands above--tireless, vigilant defenders of their ancient ways. Hearing dim but growing rumors of a spreading evil, Ulfsaar headed out beyond the boundaries of his wild wooded homeland, intending to track down and destroy the threat at its source, before it could endanger his people. He is a proud creature with a bright strong spirit, utterly trustworthy, a staunch ally and defender.

When to pick Ursa

Your team has no melee carries
Your team has a few good slowers/stunners (slowers better)
The enemies has not chosen Viper, Drow Ranger, or Storm Spirit (these guys make your life very difficult)
The enemy carries don't have great escape mechanisms (eg. blinkers)
You want to have fun and be terrifying

Items

Starting Items

Ursa is aggresive hero, so you probably will need more healing, that you can get from Healing Salve & Tango. As a becoming carry you will need much gold, to solve that problem you must have Quelling Blade which allows you to get creeps last hits more often. And Ring of Protection will by used to get Vladmir's Offering faster.

Mid Game

If everything wen't OK in Early & Mid Game and you didn't f**ked up, then you should finnaly have these items. Phase Boots is only boots that Ursa should think about, becouse it has hight damage bonus (+24) and nice speed increase when activated, so you should catch almost everyone who tries to escape. Thank's to Quelling Blade and you Last Hitting skill's you should have have enought gold to get Vladmir's Offering, which will help to get Roshan (About this part, later in guide). And Finnaly the Sange and Yasha, it's an item that perfectly fits Ursa, Speed, Damage, Hp and Enemy slowing.

Late Game (Optional)

So Ok, differences between Early & Mid Game items is that these items is only Optional, and that means that you should buy them by the situation. About these items:

1. Assault Cuirass - It gives you whery nice attack speed and armor, It also gives buff for your teamates and negative armor buff for enemy team. Be in mind that that you should buy this item when non of your teamates has it and when enemies have good armor bonus.
2. Butterfly - This item increases your damage by 60 (+30 Agl & +30 Dmg) and attack speed by 30 what is whery nice. Also it gives 30% Evasion which mean that enemy who is hitting you whith normal attack has a 30% chance to miss. I recomend to get this item when you need only 30% evasion from enemies like Lifestealer, Naga Siren and etc. For damage there is far better items.
3. Daedalus - This is an item that you should buy when you want more damage. The better thing than +81 damage is only 25% of critical strike (x2.5). This item is whery dangerous with Overpower.
4. Divine Rapier - An item which I always buy when I get killing machine at Game end. I use this to finish and win faster. A name for this item should be "Final Blow" ^^
5. Heart of Tarrasque - Whery usefull item after team fight's. If you got whery wounded, but still need to push lanes without coming back to base this can get whery usefull. All in all I don't recommend to get this unless you want some really nice Hp bonus, Vladmir's Offering in woods or on creeps can do the healing.
6. Monkey King Bar - One of damage item's, can be mixed with Daedalus.
7. Skull Basher - If enemies get's faster than you and your phase boots buy this Item. This item bash is owning when mixed with Overpower + it gives some damage (+40) and some Str (+6).
8. Shadow Blade - If Phase Boots become usseles when chasing enemies Shadow Blade is excelent item to attack from ambush. It also gives +38 damage and 10 attack speed. Will be deadly with Eartshock or Skull Basher.
9. Black King Bar - If enemy team has many heroe's with magic skills, which slows, stuns, traps, disables... And just f**k up your plans than you must get this item as fast as you can. Not also it gives 10-1 seconds of Magic Immunity, but it also gives 24 damage and 10 strenght.

Skills

Eartshock - CASTING METHOD: ACTIVE
TARGETTING METHOD: INSTSANT
ALLOWED TARGETS: ENEMY UNITS
Ursa slams the earth, causing a powerful shock to damage and slow all enemy units in a nearby area for 4 seconds.
Radius: 385
Damage: 90 / 140 / 190 / 240
Slow: 25% / 35% / 45% / 55%
Duration: 4
Mana Cost: 75 Cooldown Time: 6

Comment's: As you can see from the skill build for my it isn't that important to max this in early game. Enemies doesn't have that hight speed at start so you don't need to slow them with this, better just to get Phase Boots.

Overpower - CASTING METHOD: ACTIVE
TARGETTING METHOD: INSTANT
ALLOWED TARGETS: SELF
Using his skill in combat, Ursa gains increased attack speed for a set number of attacks or until the duration expires.
Radius: 365
Effect: 400% Attack speed
Duration: 15
Number of attacks: 3 / 4 / 5 / 6
Mana Cost: 45 / 55 / 65 / 75 Cooldown Time: 10

Comment's: This is the most used skill on Ursa gameplay. Mixed with Fury Swipes it create's a deadly combo which can kill enemies in few moment's.

Fury Swipes - CASTING METHOD: PASSIVE
ALLOWED TARGETS: ENEMY UNITS
Ursa's claws dig deeper wounds in the enemy, causing consecutive attacks to the same enemy to deal more damage. Each hit on the same target within 6 seconds, including the first hit, deals damage and increases the damage taken by subsequent attacks. If the same target is not attacked after 6 seconds, the bonus damage is lost.
Fury Swipes is a Unique Attack Modifier, and does not stack with other Unique Attack Modifiers.
Bonus damage per attack: 15 / 20 / 25 / 30
Duration: 6

Comment's: In few hits this will become a massive damage bonus, as I told this makes whery deadly combo with Overpower.

Enrage - CASTING METHOD: ACTIVE
TARGETTING METHOD: INSTANT
ALLOWED TARGETS: SELF
Ursa goes into a frenzy, gaining a percentage of his current health as bonus damage. Lasts 15 seconds.
Percent of current life added to damage: 5% / 6% / 7%
Duration: 15
Cooldown Time: 25

Comment's: The more Hp, the more Damage. As you can see it doesn't require any mana to cast it. It also has quite low cooldown so use this skill in farming as more often as you can, just be sure that cooldown is always ready for fighting heroes.

Early Game

So the picks finally started. If you going to pick Ursa always ask your teamates to take support stun, trapper or slower.

So OK, the Game just started, you bought starting items and you must choose a lane to play. Well if you're on Dire side you should go up, but if you on Radiant side then go down. This thing works on all heroes becouse bottom is always easier to play on Radiant side, and up is always easier to play when you're on Dire side.

So the battle just started, you started to get gold from creeps thanks to Quelling Blade. Just try to do that as often as you can till first blood.

First Blood

When you're farming try to do as much damage to enemies as you can. For example: You go towards a creep with low Hp and enemy comes close to you becouse he wants to kill a creep or deny his own creep. My suggestion is to leave that creep but hit the enemy. Hopefully your lane mate is range so he should try to hardass that enemy too. After couple of times at level 3 or highter you should signal your mate to stun, slow or trap him. Becouse you have Overpowered level 2 or highter you should kill that enemy or just do huge damage to him. I know that sound too easy, but that how it is. Ursa should be whery agressive on enemies.

Roshan

So you finally got Vladmir's Offering. Usually I go for Aegis of the Immortal at lvl 11 becouse I have level 2 Enrage, but you can do it right after you get Vladmir's Offering and Overpower maxed. Now about the tactics, first check for an enemies on the map, if they aren't close to Roshan and aren't scouting for you then go and kill that b**ch who stole Aegis of the Immortal from you (Roshan) ^^. I recommend you to put wards so you would know if enemies is going to check Roshan.

Roshan at level 1 ?!

Yes, It is possible! This guide is copied and I do not own it. You can find It here.

You may have heard that Ursa is capable of doing Roshan at level 1. This is true, as long as he has Skeleton King by his side. If you can pull it off, it gives you a HUGE early game advantage. Here is what you'll need:
-Pick Ursa and Skeleton King quickly, you need to be on your way to Roshan as soon as the countdown clock starts
- Ursa should buy a Stout Shield, Quelling Blade, and a Healing Salve
-Skeleton King should buy two Healing Salve and Stout Shield or Ring of Protection
- Ursa MUST level up Fury Swipes
-Skeleton King MUST level up Vampiric Aura
-Tell your teammates that you and Skeleton King are going to Roshan and then bot together

Buy your items immediately and run straight to Roshan. Unlike jungle creeps, Roshan spawns with the map. You only need to be the two of you, but it's helpful for your teammates to come along, because a lot of people know about this trick and will check Roshan if they see Ursa and Skeleton King on the opposite team. Lich is a great addition for you, with Ice Armor.

To beat Roshan with just the two of you, you need to understand Roshan aggro AI. Roshan's targeting priorities go like this:
1. Whoever has red HP and is within range
2. Whoever I'm currently attacking
3. Whoever is closest
3. Whoever is attacking me
This is very important to understand, because the key to beating rosh with only two players is aggro management.

If you want Roshan to attack you, you need to use MOVE (M) and get right on top of him. THEN attack him. Just auto-attacking him will not guarantee that you will be his priority.

Skeleton King should be the first in to draw aggro. Ursa should be right behind him, starting to build up his Fury Swipes count. As soon as Skeleton King has lost 400hp, he backs off and eats a Healing Salve while Ursa continues to hit Roshan. Pretty soon, Ursa own life will be down to very little (especially if you're unlucky with chain stuns). This is the trickiest part.

Ursa needs to back off and eat a Healing Salve. Skeleton King needs to immediately use Move to get on top of Roshan and force aggro. This way, Ursa can come back as soon as he has at least a third of his life back and continue to hit Roshan without worrying about losing his Healing Salve. The reason you have to do this is because Ursa needs to get at least one hit in every 6 seconds or he will lose all of his Fury Swipes count, and if this happens you should just give up and try Roshan again another day.

When Ursa is back to full health, Skeleton King may need to back off and eat another Healing Salve.
But if you manage to get to this point, you should be able to finish off Roshan before long.

Your reward is quite awesome.
If it was just the two of you, you will now both be level 3 and everyone on your team will be a little richer. Ursa should take the Aegis of the Immortal.
If you started Roshan immediately, you can finish him off right around the time the Game Start Horn blows.... which means you are starting the game 2 levels ahead of your laning opponents.

You and Skeleton King should stick together, probably bottom lane. Skeleton King should put two levels into his stun, and you should put levels into Overpower. From Roshan, unless you need to heal, both of you should come up on bottom lane from behind for a very easy first blood (Skeleton King stuns, you kill, then run to safety and spend some money).
The rest of the game is going to go pretty smoothly, assuming the opposing team doesn't ragequit after a few minutes.

The only real problem with this is if the enemy team knows about this Ursa and Skeleton King trick (and it's fairly well known), they will check Roshan. If it's just the two of you, you will get counter-ganked pretty hard and the rest of the game is going to go quite differently. This is why it's generally recommended to do this with all 5 teammates. You will each be level 2 by the end of Roshan (instead of you and Skeleton King being 3 and everyone else 1), which is good for everyone on your team, and plus it will make Roshan a hell of a lot easier to finish off.

Mid & Late Game

So you killed Roshan and the Mid Game begins. At this part you need to make the most aggression. You got Aegis of the Immortal so ask teamates for a good teamfight Initiate and show them why everyone fears Ursa ^^. Remember, Ursa isn't for intellectuals! Just go there and

Smash S**t with your claws!

About Mid & Late game there is nothing special thing's to talk, just remember don't do silly stuff when you feel overpowered and unstoppable, you still need team. At Mid & Late Game you duty is to nuke enemies and push as fast as you can.

Some Fotos of My Own

As you can see by mine team score I really saved it ^^. It's important never to lose hope and move on. With Ursa Aggresssion really helps.

Really nice score of mine, nothing special here.

Heres mine performance, don't be fooled by the numbers. I have really nice expirience of Dota 1.
