TwillyFSniper's Guide to Razor (for 6.83)

TwillyFSniper
March 4, 2015

Pros/Cons

Pros
+ Tanky for a carry. He can take an awful lot of damage with this build.
+ Amazing pusher, particularly after taking Aghanim's Scepter.
Cons
-- Pretty cruddy early game. His abilities take up a large fraction of his mana. Also, his pros don't really get realized until later. Although a good Razor player can make this problem seem like it's nonexistent, and made up.

Items

At the start, I would take 4 iron branches, to get cheap stat boosts, a couple of clarities, and a couple of tangoes for lane presence.

For early core, focus on trying to deal more basic attack damage and having more attack speed. A great way to do this is to build your Blade of Alacrity (to go into Aghanim's Scepter) and of course the standard Boots of Speed.

Build your Power Treads next. These are ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT on Razor. It gives Razor the ability to adapt himself to the situation. Then try for Heart of Tarrasque, Butterfly, or Aghanim's Scepter, depending on the situation. Aghanim's Scepter is the one I'd recommend to buy most often. It's the cheapest, and gives your pushing a swell boost, by allowing your ultimate to push out the towers, and it also deals more AoE (proximity) damage. Heart of Tarrasque makes you an unstoppable force. It makes you tanky as heck. You can take LOADS of damage after getting this item. Just tank out the dang towers, and it actually helps your ultimate's juke killing potential. Butterfly gives a huge DPS boost, and the ability to flat-out DODGE attacks. THAT'S USEFUL.

After these items, build two of the situationals. What you get depends on what you need, team structure, et cetera.
Blade Mail- get this if you are the team tank. Blade Mail gives armor, and a really nice damage reflecting active.
Eul's Scepter of Divinity- CYCLONES ARE REALLY FUN. Plus, it's just... Great for Razor. The mana. The movement. THE EVERYTHING ABOUT THEM!
Mekansm- Get if your support is absolutely cruddy. It's pretty situational I think. But apparently Valve has a different opinion than I. RAZOR IS NOT A SUPPORT.
Desolator- DEFINITELY GET THIS IF YOU MAKE THE NOT SO GOOD DECISION TO FORGET THE SCEPTER. Gives nice tower pushing and more damaging attacks with the yummy armor penetration. "Your tears are tasty"- you with this item, talking to the enemy team.
Diffusal Blade- Make Noob Lancers and Meepos rage hard. Use the Purge!
Sange and Yasha- THE DELICIOUS TEARS ARE SO DELICIOUS! STAT BOOSTS ARE CRAZY.
Scythe of Vyse- Really nice for Razor, because it helps him along the way. But a situational, it's a bit expensive for how much it really helps.
Assault Cuirass- Gives Razor attack speed and tankiness in case you need it. Not bad. Better for a Manly Man Sven carry though, in my personal opinion.

Skill Sequence

Plasma Field- AMAZING POKE IF BUILT. Works well against heroes with high ranges like Sniper and Techies. It does cost a good bit of mana, though. Build this as a main ability. It can make you turn your early game into wreckage, if used right.
Static Link- I used to not like using this. But I realized IT'S AN AMAZING TOOL TO COUNTER LEGION COMMANDER! (I'll mention how it does in the section for said thing). Also, good at countering high damage heroes before they WRECK. Build this as a main ability as well.
Unstable Current- It's a tankiness ability. It also gives movement. I reccommend maxing this at level 14. Always. Against anything. Even if you think you need it a lot, you really don't.
Eye of the Storm- It's his ultimate, so obviously take ASAP. This particular ultimate is a great ability to use to push or tankout. Combos well with Heart of Tarrasque and Aghanim's Scepter. The tank pushing... YES!

Teamwork and Countering

Razor is a great addition to most any team composition. Razor can be an extremely effective counter-carry. He can cancel out supercarries before they even start their stuff. Also, he counters some champions that are really, REALLY OP!

He works well with heros of sorts like Legion Commander, Witch Doctor, and Earthshaker in particular. Legion Commander and Razor combos ANNIHILATE in correct use, I'm surprised I haven't seen it A SINGLE TIME. Razor uses Static Link, and then Legion Commander can pretty much have a guaranteed ultimate kill with Duel. Also, if it somehow may botch, Razor can use his Eye of the Storm. Teamfight combo of course. Not lane combo.

Razor counters Legion Commander, Sniper, and believe it or not, Bloodseeker. Legion Commander's ult won't work if you drain her damage, right? Sniper is counteed by his ENTIRE KIT. MEANT TO COUNTER SUPER GLASS CARRIES. Bloodseeker is a really ****y pick as of recently (SILENCE BUFF) and Razor, unbelievably, can counter it. He ults, but you don't run. You stay and use your Q, R, and W in that order. He's done, plus his laning is poor if he can't get a SINGLE attack in. Boo, Mofo!

Tinker, Slark, and Sven can all counter Razor. Tinker can poke him out of lane and make him pretty much unviable looking. His poke can be insane if the Razor tries to orbwalk into it early game. Of course, just a counter in lane. Slark can just stop a Razor in his tracks. Slark can use his Leap to just go in, and his Essence Shift to take away all Razor's stat advantages. Razor's Q will not save him at all. The damage is range based. Slark can heal up by just using his invis. Sven's stun ult combo makes mincemeat out of Razor. Razor's Q is not useful against Sven's manliness. Also what use is any of his abilities here? Sven just flat out wrecks you. Even your ultimate likely won't save you.
