Introduce

Hello there, Aruestarula here.
I'm new user and i want to share some tips for playing ogre magi.
Ogre Magi , Wraith King, and Sniper is a hero that new dota player must try, and here i will explain about Ogre Magi.
Ogre Magi is intelligence hero with a melee or close range attack. Usualy people make they as Support, Dissabler, Semi-carry, and Nuker, but sometime you can see they roaming or ganking (Well i never do that because i can't). They famous because their ultimate ( Multicast) make your skill able to cast more than once for free, with some percentage for it to happen.

Need to know

  • When there are text with this colour (blue light) it mean good, when there are text with this colour (Red) this mean bad or important
  • AS mean Attack Speed, MS mean Movement Speed
  • I'll make thing simple, but if there something i need change or some advice, please PM me :)
  • i can't advice Which item should you buy first or what item after this and that, because in game money and condition are never same. so buy what you think need to buy, this is strategies game use your knowledge and experience because they are the best teacher.
[*[ this more like tips and not the only way to playing Ogre Magiand if you dissagre with my build or find something need to expalain, PM or comment so we can disscuss it.

About ogre magi

The ordinary ogre is the creature for whom the phrase 'As dumb as a bag of rock hammers' was coined. In his natural state, an ogre is supremely incapable of doing or deciding anything. Clothed in dirt, he sometimes finds himself accidentally draped in animal skins after eating lanekill. Not an especially social creature, he is most often found affectionately consorting with the boulders or tree-stumps he has mistaken for kin (a factor that may explain the ogre's low rate of reproduction). However, once every generation or so, the ogre race is blessed with the birth of a two-headed Ogre Magi, who is immediately given the traditional name of Aggron Stonebreak, the name of the first and perhaps only wise ogre in their line's history. With two heads, Ogre Magi finds it possible to function at a level most other creatures manage with one. And while the Ogre Magi will win no debates (even with itself), it is graced with a divine quality known as Dumb Luck--a propensity for serendipitous strokes of fortune which have allowed the ogre race to flourish in spite of enemies, harsh weather, and an inability to feed itself. It's as if the Goddess of Luck, filled with pity for the sadly inept species, has taken Ogre Magi under her wing. And who could blame her? Poor things.

Good/Bad

Good
[*] High STR gain
[*] Good base damage
[*] Fast attack Animation
[*] have Stun Fireblast and slow Ignite
[*] Good base HP regen(3hp/sec) and base Armor (6,96)
[*] Multicast is fun Skill

Bad
[*] Slow movement
[*] Fair INT gain
[*] Fireblast need high mana
[*] Multicast is unpredictable
[*] Bad at late game

well that's all i know, if you can point something that i miss, it will really help

What they have

This skill able to stun and deal good damage (55 / 110 / 165 / 220) with or without multicast. but i suggest don't use it for Harassing or reduce enemy heath because it's mana usage, also it's stun (1.5 Second) is more valuable than damage. Use it if only you want stun, sure-kill attack, or have a lot of mana.

For me, this is why Ogre magi is awesome. It's have slow (20% / 22% / 24% / 26%) and do good damage(Total damage of 130/204/294/400), and only cost 95/105/115/125. Plus with Multicast, it's become AOE and can trigger multicast. that mean nearby enemies will be selected randomly in an 1400 AoE to be ignited, but too bad it's not stack just refresh the current Ignite.

This skill boost target Attack speed (20 / 30 / 40 / 50) and movement speed by fair amount(10% / 12% / 14% / 16%). The good side is the duration about 30 second and also able to do multicast.bad for early game, good for late game.

Ogre Magi's Ultimate. Just like it's name, Ogre Magi able to cast multiple spell at once with some percentage for it to happen. It's chance seems little low for level 1, after lvl 11 you can dish high damage at once.

Here what Multicast do:

Chance to cast double cast: 40% / 50% / 60%
Chance to cast Triple cast: 0% / 20% / 25%
Chance to cast Quadruple cast: 0% / 0% / 12.5%
Fireblast mana increase: 20 / 40 / 60
Fireblast cooldown reduction: 2 / 4 / 6
Ignite radius: 150 / 300 / 450
Bloodlust radius: 575
Bloodlust cooldown reduction: 5 / 10 / 15

As you can see, the only downside is fireblast need more mana to cast, but the other is good.

Extra skill when you buy Aghanim's Scepter.
here the details:
Range: 600
Duration: 1.5
Damage: 275
Mana Cost: 60% of Current Mana
Cooldown Time: 6

compare it firblast :
Range: 475
Duration: 1.5
Damage: 55 / 110 / 165 / 220
Mana Cost: 75 / 85 / 95 / 105
Cooldown Time: 12 (6 of Multicast at level 3)

So Unrefined Fireblast great at range and damage, same at duration of stun and cooldown, but poor at mana needed. You only use it for ESCAPE or when you WILL REALLY KILL SOMEONE because it's will consume your 60 percent current mana and that's a lot if you have you mana pool full. and a little fact, because it's consume 60% of Ogre Magi's "Current mana" so you always have mana to use it

How to play it

Now how to playing Ogre magi...
Common rule

  • You have a high Hp regen, good base damage and STR but doesn't mean you have to charge like a Centaur Warrunner . just try denied and last hit creep
  • Always shoot Fireblast first. Why?, because you better stun it first so you can land ignite safely. Also when you throw Ignite then Fireblast you will lose about 2.0 second slow because the stun and cast animation.
  • always buy Soul Ring. thank's for the Hp regen and STR gain, you always have enough hp left when you use Soul Ring
  • Ogre Magi able to survive thanks for they high STR gain,Base armor, and base regen. They also have high damage output for early and mid but poor at late game. So we need item that Dissable enemy and Enhance mana regeneration. So there are more item you can pick outside my guide

Item Semi-Carry

SEMI-CARRY

This style, prioritize mana regen, survive, and dissable, amplified magic damage

Increase mana, movement, also AOE 135 mana recovery. Solve mana problem of Ogre Magi because it refill your mana about 135 and your skill need less than 150 mana to cast so it fix perfectly. but in later game, you should change it into Boots of Travel to chase or run.

Another instant mana refill. It's refill more than Arcane Boots(150 mana) but the downside is it's cost your Hp also if in 10 second you don't use any skill, you will lose 150 mana you gain from it. later it can change it into Bloodstone

Cheap, give 3 stat, and refill both mana and Hp. GO FOR IT!!!

LUXURY

500Hp, 400mana, 9/Hp regeneration, 200% mana regeneration. Also bloodpact that give extra regen per charge AND reduce gold lost by 25 and respawn time by 4 second. And you can suicide~.PLEASE SEE BLOODSTONE VS SCYTHE OF VYSE FOR MORE DETAILED ABOUT THIS ITEM

Give +35int, 10+STR and AGI, 150% mana regen, and hex(Turns a target unit into a harmless critter for 3.5 seconds. Destroys illusions. ) PLEASE SEE BLOODSTONE VS SCYTHE OF VYSE FOR MORE DETAILED ABOUT THIS ITEM

This item used for silences target unit for 5 seconds and amplifies the damage it takes by 30%.Main reason is for mana regen also attack speed.

pick this item if there are enemy with high movement speed, because the when active, it will slow 40% MS and deal 200 Damage. We buy it for armor,INT and slowing enemy.

Give +6 to all stat, 6 Hp per second, 6 armor and 6 damage(a lot of 6 here). overall this give nice stat and regen also it can increases the magic damage enemies take by 25% fro 25 second.

100 movement and teleport for chasing and escaping

usually i buy this when i become support one, but when you need extra stat or AS and MS, you buy this. Give +9 to all stat, 3 damage, increase AS by 5 and MS by 5% and when active give extra 10%MS and 10 AS

Item Support

SUPPORT

This style, prioritize aura and buff(also Observer Ward), and somehow make you tanky but do not overdo it.AND NEVER TRY DUAL MODE(combine Aura and Dissable) unless you have a lot of gold, DON'T SWING THAT WAY. because someone chase two rabbit will got nothing....

You being support, that mean you have to support you team. Buying some Observer Ward also is important

Aura Mode

Give 2+ to all stat and 2 p regen aura. We can upgrade it into Mekansm or Pipe of Insight depend on the situation.

Just like i laready explain.Give +9 to all stat, 3 damage, increase AS by 5 and MS by 5% and when active give extra 10%MS and 10 AS.Enchance our team MS to chase and Escape

Armor buff and mana regen buff is what we looking for from this kid.also it's cheap and you can turn it into Vladmir's Offering if most your team are close range

]
upgrade from ring os basilius. Give 2 hp/s, 15% life steal Aura, 15% damage bonus aura, 0.8 mana regen aura, 5 armor aura. But only make this if most of your team are close range.

MEKANSM OR PIPE?
Here i explain more about it.

able to Heals 250 HP and gives +2 armor in an area. and AOE 4Hp regen

able to block 400 spell damage and have 4 health Aura

So it's depend but if someone already have Mekansm, go for Pipe of Insight and vice versa(it mean same case if team have Pipe of Insight)

Dissabler mode
Focusing to silence, hex, slowing and any other dissabler. the downside is you must being active point and click and must have a lot of gold. Good side,80% will win~

Give 25 Int and 250 Hp. Also cripple target movement speed by 60%. The combo is like this Fireblast, Ignite,if not dead Rod of Atos and pummel them to dead.Still not dead? well look at your Fireblast again, click it,point to him and laughing....

Give 10 to STR and AGI, 35 to INT, and 150% mana regeneration and ability to hex(MS become 140).Hex are combination of cripple and silent so it's good, but it's quite expensive and you as support maybe can't buy this.

Give 30 INT, 10 Armor and have artic blast(200 damage to enemies and slows their movement by 40% for 4 seconds.)Use this when Rod of Atos is not enough. Because slow from Rod of Atos and Ignite, you can get close to you enemy. Embrace them with freezing wave and warm them up with Fireblast.

FOR MOBILITY

This section is about extra item for increasing Ogre Magi mobility. thanks again to Romark14 and Unscathed.

Here item that increase mobility of Ogre Magi

let's explain each of it

[*] +10 Intelligence
[*] +150% Mana Regeneration
[*] +40 Movement Speed
[*] active Cyclone = A target unit is swept up in a cyclone and made invulnerable for 2.5 seconds. Cyclone can be cast on self. Enemy units take 50 damage upon landing.

This increase mana regen 150% (same as Scythe of Vyse ) and increase 40 MS. And active cyclone that hold enemy 2.5 second in air. That mean, we can lift them at air and WAIT FOR OUR Fireblast and Ignite READY AND SHOOT AT THEM. it's need 2250 gold to make this. Fair deal isn't it?

let you jump toward max 1200 distance and let you to chase and gank. Little fact about this item
  • Click/press item twice to instant escape to your fountain, though NOT TELEPORTING YOU INTO FOUNTAIN just let you teleport into fountain direction
  • When you click more than 1200 distance, you will teleported about 960 distance, instead 1200
Cost only 2250 cheaper than Eul's Scepter of Divinity but just give teleport

[*] +10 INT
[*] 3hp/sec
[*] active force = Pushes any target unit 600 units in the direction it is facing. Double click to self-cast.

This item like Blink Dagger, only you are not blink but like pushed away. Distance is half if you compare it to Blink Dagger and the price same, but it can cast on anyone(you, enemy, friend, creep). It mean you can pull you enemy, pull you friend when they almost dead, let you jump toward enemy, push enemy away, or i let you to decide to choose it. Buy this when you become support

[*] +16 Agility
[*] +16 Strength
[*] +16 Damage
[*] +16 Attack Speed
[*] +16% Movement Speed
[*] greater maim (Slowing target, Chance: 16% |Move Speed Slow: 32% |Attack Speed |Slow: 32 Slow |Duration: 5)

as close range, Ogre Magi able to use Sange and Yasha very well. It give +16 to AGI,STR,MS,AS,DAMAGE,and chance to maim. That mean you become tankier and can chase you enemy more efficiently. Downside it's give zero benefit into INT and mana regen.

AGHANIM AND REFRESH ORB

Another section about Aghanim's Scepter and Refresher Orb

  • +10 Strength
  • +10 Agility
  • +10 Intelligence
  • +200 HP
  • +150 Mana
Passive: Ultimate Upgraded (add Unrefined Fireblast]

Personally i never buy this, because the slot for it, i use for another thing. But Romark14 said this is not a bad idea. An extra shoot of Fireblast with greater range and damage with low cooldown, also the chance to do multicast, some poeple really love this bad guy. But not me :)

  • +6 Intelligence
  • +5 HP/sec Regeneration
  • +200% Mana Regeneration
  • +40 Damage
  • +10 Attack Speed

Active: Reset Cooldowns (Resets the cooldowns of all your items and abilities)

honestly, when i first playing this guy, i always buying Refresher Orb and Aghanim's Scepter, Because it's so much fun, Fireblast, Ignite, Unrefined Fireblast, Refresher Orb, Fireblast, Ignite, Unrefined Fireblast combo~. the downside? left nothing but Hp and no way to run :D

But again, it's not a bad idea if your have outworld devourer

BLOODSTONE VS SCYTHE OF VYSE

This special chapter will talk about this two item for Bloodstone vs Scythe of Vyse.
Thanks to Romark14 and Unscathed.
but it's back to the player which to choose, because i will comparing what this item do for Ogre Magi.

[*]+10 Strength
[*]+10 Agility
[*]+35 Intelligence
[*]+150% Mana Regeneration
[*]hex= Turn enemy into a harmless critter for 3.5 seconds. Destroys illusions.

[*]+500 HP
[*]+400 Mana
[*]+9 HP/sec Regeneration
[*]+200% Mana Regeneration
[*]Pocket Suicide=instantly causes you to die/Deny yourself.
[*]Bloodpact= each time an enemy hero dies within 1675 range,Bloodstone get 1 charge. Each charge give extra 1 Mana regen,Reduce respawn time by 4 and gold by 25.

After doing research, and asking my senior about which is better, now i get it why Romark14 and Unscathed suggest me Scythe of Vyse.

on single view, Bloodstone have more benefit and it's cheaper than Scythe of Vyse. But making Bloodstone is hard when you failing behind(mean you don't have good farm, death to much, or losing line). Bloodstone need about 7 items, that are Sage's Mask, Ring of Regen, Soul's ring recipe, Energy Booster, Point Booster, Vitality Booster , and Bloodstone recipe, while Scythe of Vyse need 3 items, Void Stone, Mystic Staff, Ultimate Orb.

But here the interesting part, Scythe of Vyse is better item when you failing behind. Why? because every single item needed for Scythe of Vyse are already give nice stat for Ogre Magi.even you start with any of it, you still have good stat to keep going.

and Bloodstone need high farm because each of them give poor stat untill it change into Bloodstone

So unless you are mid or have good farm and kill, pick Scythe of Vyse. But it back to people choice.
GREAT REGENERATION FOR MANA AND HP BUT POOR STAT
OR
GREAT STAT WITH DISSABLER BUT....wait i can't find any weakness except it's cost for Scythe of Vyse =="

BLOODLUST SECTION

And now i explain about Bloodlust

Range: 600
Duration: 30
Bonus Attack Speed: 20 / 30 / 40 / 50
Bonus Movement Speed: 10% / 12% / 14% / 16%
Mana Cost: 75 Cooldown Time: 20

I always pick Bloodlust last, because i usually need stat to keep shooting enemy with Fireblast and Ignite. But there are the condition when i pick Bloodlust at level 9 or when Fireblast and Ignite at max level

  • When you are become support
  • when your team have someone like Chaos Knight that use illusion to help push
  • when you need to push tower quick. Ignite enemy and Bloodlust team are quick way to push.
  • when you start losing, because Bloodlust let you run and hit faster. good for farming

And again those are up to you guys. If my guide seems not right or fit for you, then maybe the way we play are different. But if this guide help even a little , that's good.

Some other thing that i confuse about where should i put

  • always use Fireblast 1st then combo it with other attack. The main reason is we waiting for the delay of Fireblast and we don't want lose some slow because we use Ignite first then firstblast
  • Complete list about damage (before reduction) Multicast work
A 2x Multi Cast deal {110/220/330/440} damage and stun for 1.9 seconds.
A 3x Multi Cast deal {165/330/495/660} damage and stun for 2.3 seconds.
A 4x Multi Cast deal {220/440/660/880} damage and stun for 2.7 seconds.
  • Why you not suggest Aghanim's Scepter?. Simple, because the mana cost and space for inventory. I play so we can win, not so i can kill...
  • If someone find there are similiarity with another guide, then maybe i doing research using their data and if someone want claim, or angry or such please contact me.
  • if there are misspell or bad grammar, please tell me

The other thing that..

OK this will be the end of my guide. Thanks for reading and if there are any mistake or something that you want suggest, send me PM and maybe we can share our idea.

Thanks

UPDATE LOG
