Icetags Guide To Timbersaw

Introduction

Hello and welcome to my guide for Timbersaw!

Lore: Rizzrack could still hear the screams in his mind. He worked, frantically turning wrenches, twisting screws, building and carving and forging. Sleep eluded him; he only built. Months had passed since he had shut himself in his uncle's workshop, and his deliverance was nearly complete. He rubbed his back as his eyes drifted shut, and saw a blanket of flowers floating on the placid waves of Augury Bay before exploding into a cloud of pollen that silenced lives as it seized the lungs. He woke with a choking start. For hours the rhythmic sound of a whetstone filled the shop as he sharpened a set of massive blades, his mind filled with images of strangling vines garroting neighbors, enwrapping homes. The flooding of Augury Bay had been nothing compared to the violent horrors the waters left to take root beyond the city walls. But the saw-suit would make him strong and safe he thought, allowing himself this sliver of hope before the full might of his fear crashed into his fading mind. Branches and bark and blood. When the city fell, Rizzrack fled trees that walked, and fought, and killed. Trees had shattered the gates and swarmed into the city. Trees had crushed and thrashed and stomped the last that Augury Bay could muster in defense, and stalked the few fleeing refugees. In addled silence Rizzrack unspooled the thick chain from the suit's arm, his hands quaking as he inspected each link and ran a trembling finger along the claw attached at its end. The saw-suit was ready.

With his hand trembling he sparked the bladed machine to life. Terror drove him, terror of what awaited him and of what he would have to face to have any hope of calming his mind. As the saw-suit shuddered to life he knew he must face this fear, and he knew he wouldn't like it one bit. (Farley)

Who is Timbersaw?

Timbersaw is a meele highly mobile ganker and initiator. Hes also somewhat tanky later on.

When to pick timbersaw:
Your team has aoe disabler (Enigma, Magnus, etc.) but lacks aoe damage.
You need a team initiator.
When the enemy team lacks escapes.
When you are good at managing your mana.
Enemy team has a Meepo or Natures Prophet.
When you know you can gank mid-game.
When you hate the forest.
Enemy team has a pusher such as Enigma or Broodmother.

When not to pick timbersaw:
The enemy team has a mana burn (Nyx,Outworld Destroyer, Keeper of the light etc.)
When the enemy team has a silence that you know will **** you up. (Silencer, Bloodseeker, Drow Ranger etc.)
When the enemy team does have a keeper of the light.
You're not good when it comes to roaming and ganking effectively.

Skills

Whirling Death: Shredder whirls extremely sharp edges, damaging enemies and destroying trees around him in an area. If an enemy hero is affected, it loses some of its primary attribute for a short duration. Whirling Death will deal Pure damage if a tree is cut down in the process.

Damage: 100 / 150 / 200 / 250

Mana Cost: 70 / 80 / 90 / 100 Cooldown Time: 8

*Note* A very effective skill against tanks, effectively reducing their hp. It also deals pure damage if you cut down a tree as well. The Aoe is kinda short, almost auto attack range. Try to use this skill after you initiated with Timber Chain as there will probably be a tree nearby.

Mini-Guide To Pure Damage
All heros have base 25% magic resistance with no items nor skills.
That means you will be doing 250x0.75= 187,5 damage without cutting a tree in the process. However pure damage goes trough magic resistance and does a full 250 damage. That means you will be losing 62,5 damage from not cutting a tree.
Timber Chain: Shredder fires a chain that embeds itself in the first tree it hits, pulling him towards it. Any enemy in the path takes damage.

Range: 800 / 1000 / 1200 / 1400
Damage: 100 / 140 / 180 / 220
Damage radius: 225

*Note* This is what makes Timbersaw so highly mobile and annoying to kill. Its basically a low mana cost blink that requires you to target a tree. It has a incredibly low cooldown, fairly low mana cost and insane range. On top of that it does damage. If you are not good with skills such as pudge hook or clockwork ultimate i recommend maxing this after Whirling Death. Otherwise maxing this first will you give more damage potential if you know how to land it a lot.
Reactive Armor: Each time Shredder is attacked, he gains increased health regen and armor.

Stack Limit: 4 / 8 / 12 / 16
Stack Bonus Armor: 1
Stack Bonus Health Regeneration: 1 HP/sec

Mana Cost: 60 / 70 / 80 / 90 Cooldown Time: 4

*Note* This gives nice lane sustain and shines when they enemy team has agility carries (They Attack Fast) which basically gives you loads of extra survivability. I usually take one point early and leave it until i maxed my Timber Chain And Whirling Death.
Chakram: Fires your main saw blade at the target location, and once there the blade will spin, dealing damage in an area around it and slowing enemies. For each 5%% of health missing, enemies caught in the saw blade move more slowly. The blade deals damage and cuts down trees in its path when fired and retracted. You lose the ability to attack and while the blade is out.

Passthrough Damage: 100 / 140 / 180
Damage per Second: 50 / 75 / 100
Range: 1200
Mana cost per Second: 20 / 25 / 30

Mana Cost: 125 / 150 / 175 Cooldown Time: 8

*Note* Timbersaw's ultimate wich gives him great ganking potential and good teamfight presence. The important note about this skill is the mana drain. This skill consumes ****loads of mana (Wich is the reason i said that you should be good at managing your mana before). At level 6 this alone drains all your mana in around 10 seconds(Assuming you didn't use your first two skills wich you should). Its great for chasing people beacuse the lower the hp the more slowed people get. This is one of the main reasons you build alot of mana items on Timbersaw.

Ps: Casting Chakram in base and then teleporting (Radiance Bot Lane) or (Scourge Top Lane) is so mutch win.

You can change the skill build to your liking, this is my persona preference.

Items

Starting Items:
I usually go for a mix of mana and tank items on Timbersaw. I start off with a stout shield, Healing Salve and tangos and depending on the game Clariyts or Iron branches (If the enenmy cast spells alot a wand will do good.)

Core:
My core items consists of Mana boots, Vanguard and a Rod of Atos. Vanguard for the obviousness needed tankyness if you're going to initiate. Rod of Atos is a item well suited for Timersaw, why you may ask. It has hp (Wich you need) and a lot of intelligence which makes up for his terrible mana pool. Also the active slow effects works very well with Chakram allowing you to slow them down then cast Chakram so they stay in it and take more damage. Mana boots is kinda self explaining.

Luxuries: I recommend getting a bloodstone in case you still have mana troubles, if not then feel free to get a Shiva's or a Heart Of Tarrasque in case you feel too squishy.

Situational: Pipe Of Inisght, you can carry this item as it gives you a good amount of defense against nukers.
Blade Mail: If you get focused alot get this.

Gameplay

Early Game: Try to get a lot of lasthits, which shouldn't be mutch of a problem with a stout shield combined with your Reactive Armor. Try to save mana to get away and not spend it too fast. If you see a possibility for a kill you can go for it tough.

Mid game: This is where Timbersaw shines. Roam the map for kills and help your allies to get as mutch farm as possible. You should have mana boots by now and maybe a vanguard if you did well early. You can nuke down a lot of heros with ease.

Late Game: Your beginning to grow into a more of tanky role. Your Timer Chain is now mainly for mobility and you should now be using Chakram a lot more to assist your team.

Allies And Foes

Here are a few heros that you that will help you out or give you a nice combo:

These two provide you with mana regeneration wich helps out his ****ty mana pool.

This people does not only give you a stun they can screw up enemy positioning (Put them closer to trees for pure damage).

Aoe Disablers:

These guys allows you to land your ultimate on all targets in a teamfight for epic damage.

Speical Mention:

This guy traps people in trees allowing you to walk up to them for free pure damage.

Watch Out For These:

These two will just drain all your mana and laugh while you become useless. You shouldn't consider picking Timbersaw against them.

Special Mention

Beware of this skill, it can make you waste alot of mana trying to escape usng timber chain.

Not only will this guy burn your mana incredibly fast, hes blink is better than your Timber Chain in most cases making him a pain in the *** to go aginst.

Summary

Timbersaw is excellent hero with a over average diffuclty to play. If you would like to add something onto this guide feel free to comment.
