How To: Elder Titan, the Worldsmith

xCO2
May 2, 2013

INTRODUCTION

Since ancient times it has been prophesized by the Tauren elders that a Chieftain will come, strong as the mightiest warriors and wise as the eldest shamans. After many years of wandering the sacred lands, seeking wisdom from his forefathers, Cairne Bloodhoof has proven himself as the long awaited hero. Cairne carries with him the spirit of his mightiest ancestor, and now the ground shakes with the combined strength of the Chieftain and his guardian spirit. No physical nor magical barrier can reduce the power of his enchanted halberd, the weapon used by his guardian in ancient times. Such is the power of this axe that it can split the very earth itself. Seeking revenge for the ravaging of his homeland, Cairne will soon bring his wrath upon the Scourge (Dire).

Elder Titan is a hero who brings presence to team fights. He can fill a variety of roles, but his talent lies in initiating and team fighting. The Worldsmith revels in teaming up with heavy hitters and crowd controllers. His flexible playstyle and independance of items makes him a fearsome opponent that is hard to put down.

If something is not understood fully regarding the color code, please comment with your question / issue.

ROLE and POSITION

ROLE:

Elder Titan: INITIATOR.

The Elder Titan has strong physical damage as well as a strong spell arsenal. This strong balance of auto attack and spell damage can occasionally allow him to take the role of SEMI-CARRY. He can disrupt multiple heroes simultaneously with his spells allowing him to be a strong INITIATOR. Most of the Titan's abilities synergize around his guardian spirit and using his spells, making the Worldsmith an adequate and durable CASTER. Being someone who is so independent of farm the Worldsmith can also be a SUPPORT. Though he is durable he is not a TANK, and being a hard hitter he's not a CARRY. Overall Elder Titan excels in terms of damage and disruption, and is very flexible in build and playstyle. With that being said, he's a fearsome foe.

POSITION:

Assuming you bought your starting equipment as suggested and are wondering what to do now, you might want to consider your lane or jungle position; for the purpose of this guide you will head to a DUO or TRI lane. You should never SOLO as Elder Titan, you can not hold your own enough to win MID against a true solo mid hero.

BOTTLE and RUNES

Bottle: NO

Illusion: DO NOT PICK UP, unless there is no one nearby with a bottle.

Double Damage: Do not pick this up EARLY or LATE game, this is a great pick up for you in the MID game.

Invisibility: This is your rune, PICK IT UP , and use it to catch someone off guard.

Regeneration: SITUATIONAL, for the most part you will pick this up if no one needs it anymore than you do.

Haste: Good PICK UP on Elder Titan, allows for you to get into position.

EARLY GAME

INITIATION ORIENTATED:

Lvl 1: Save your Q, using only in defence or to secure first blood.

Lvl 2: Try to save casting for a few levels, using your Q if needed.

Lvl 3: Cast your W when needed, making sure there are enemy creeps nearby.

Lvl 4: Cast your W when needed, making sure there are enemy creeps nearby.

Lvl 5: Continue casting W, and occasionally Q if its needed to secure a kill.

Lvl 6: Use your R in conjunction with your Q to successfully nuke any opposition.

SUPPORT ORIENTATED:

Lvl 1: Save your Q, using only in defence or to secure first blood.

Lvl 2: Save your Q, using only in defence or to secure first blood. Do not cast W.

Lvl 3: Try to save casting for a few levels, using your Q if needed.

Lvl 4: Try to save casting for a next level, using your Q if needed.

Lvl 5: Use your Q and W for sure kills, otherwise wait until next level.

Lvl 6: Use your R in conjunction with your Q to successfully nuke any opposition.

SEMI-CARRY ORIENTATED:

Lvl 1: Harass and farm accordingly, play safe and avoid conflict.

Lvl 2: Save your W for casting until next level.

Lvl 3: Save your Q and W, only using in defense or a secured kill.

Lvl 4: Save your Q and W, only using in defense or a secured kill.

Lvl 5: Continue to farm and harass your lane. Use your W as a harrass.

Lvl 6: Continue to farm and harass your lane. Save your R for fights.

TEAM FIGHTING

Coming soon...

FRIENDS and FOES

To mend the his broken soul, the Worldsmith needs the appropriate tools.

Elder Titan essentially synergizes with any massive AoE TEAMFIGHTER to set him up to do some hurting by setting him up to release his ultimate. Disablers that have a SILENCE or CC are also great teammates.

ALLIES:
+ Disruptor - Stormcaller
+ Enigma - Darchrow
+ Twin Head Dragon - Jakiro
+ Admiral - Kunkka
+ Magnoceros - Magnus
+ Tidehunter - Leviathan
+ Treant Protector - Rooftrellen
+ Warlock - Demnok Lannik
+ Crystal Maiden - Rylai
+ Keeper of the Light - Ezalor
+ Outworld Devourer - Harbinger
+ Bloodseeker - Styrgwyr
+ Death Prophet - Krobelus
+ Disruptor - Stormcaller
+ Doom Bringer - Lucifer
+ Drow Ranger - Traxex
+ Night Stalker - Balanar
+ Faerie Dragon - Puck
+ Stealth Assassin - Riki
+ Silencer - Nortrom
+ Ancient Apparition - Kaldr
+ Bane - Atropos
+ Crystal Maiden - Rylai
+ Earthshaker - Raigor Stonehoof
+ Lich - Ethreain
+ Demon Witch - Lion
+ Shadow Shaman - Rhasta
+ Windrunner - Lyralei
+ Witch Doctor - Zharvakko
+ Treant Protector - Rooftrellen
+ Batrider - Jin'zakk

The very heroes able to help the Worldsmith can also be his undoing. Any channel breaking CC ability can be a serious thorn. SILENCE is also a very detrimental factor for the Elder Titan.

FOES:
x Ancient Apparition - Kaldr
x Bane - Atropos
x Earthshaker - Raigor Stonehoof
x Nyx Assassin - Anub'arak
x Slayer - Lina
x Demon Witch - Lion

PLEASE READ

These guides are somewhat time consuming to produce, and most of them do lack some at the moment, but for the most part I believe they provide enough information to play properly with the given hero. Even though the guide is still UNFINISHED, I still need feedback on how to better it. The item build and such is always up for change, and your opinion is wanted as long as it's not something that smashes the entire guide because you don't like a little detail. Please keep in mind: if you have the time to read this guide and vote on it then you should have a sufficient amount of time to comment what pleased or displeased you.

TLDR:
Please take the time to provide feedback.
What can I change? What areas need improvement? Is the guide visually unappealing?

I don't fully agree with this.In the initiation part, dagger is useless, you can just Echo Stomp using the ancestral spirit, then before they wake up use Earth Splitter.

Blink Dagger has multiple purposes, you're more than just a hero that wastes their Q/W/R in a teamfight, you can be effective at engaging and initiating ganks. Blink is great for blinking in and then leading with the Ancestral Spirit and trapping someone in between for a sure Knock-out. Also, I'm not sure if you realize, but you have one of the most insane auras in the game, and its drawback is its small AoE so to maximize the effectiveness of you and your teammate's skills you must be relatively close, it so happens that Blink Dagger provides a gap closer active. It gives you a great increase in mobility and will provide you with many creative variations of initiating.

Its melee range, if you Blink and then Ancestral Spirit behind them and follow up with an Echo Stomp then you'll be guaranteed 3-4 knocked-out enemies heroes, the aura is just about melee range so you're effectively doubling the amount of enemy heroes that are standing in it.

I made this account just to tell you that - BLINK IS A BAD IDEA. It ruins initiation power. You do know that your stomp has a casting time? Even an average pub player would stun you before u can cast it. He is not the type of hero to go rambo and try to stun the enemy team thinking YO M ENIGMA!!!. You should hide and use your ancestral spirit to do your dirty work for you. Plus if you get stunned stomp will go into cd and you will lose a hefty amount of mana for a hero who has very little of it to begin with.
SUGGESTIONS:
I.M.O Veil should be core as it provides you with more mana and armor and hp regen, all of which you lack.
Even if you want to initiate or just gank anyhow you shoudn't put more than 2 points in stomp as that increases the mana cost by quite a lot and a 3 second sleep is enough to pull of your combo, longer duration of sleep is redundant and your allies will most likely start pounding them as soon as your ulti hits.
After 2 points in stomp you should max your passive as it boosts all the damage your team does.

Blink Dagger isn't a "bad idea", it's something that has been play tested quite a bit. The point is to blink in relatively close, summon your Ancestral Spirit behind the enemy, and Echo Stomp. This will trap them in between giving them no choice other than to use escape spells if they have any. This is a reliable way to initiate, whereas walking up and initiating with a single 475 AoE Echo Stomp from your Ancestral Spirit will usually be something that is easily avoidable as they'll just walk out of it while you channel the 1.4 seconds. On top of that, the general mobility and ability to avoid bad situations is greatly increased.

Also, I'm not sure if you realized that in that build BKB is your first core item. If they're going to stun you it'll have to be a Beastmaster or some other magic immune ignoring ultimate. I just explained in an earlier comment that he is not just an Echo Stomp and Ult hero, Blink is great for picking off lone heroes and keeping on top of a target. Not to mention, if everyone just wasted all their disables on you, then congratulations you just successfully initiated.

Elder Titan's damage is split about 50/50 between Physical and Magic damage, a Veil of Discord is more of an extension than a core item. I'd sooner get a Rod of Atos or something that allows me to manipulate the enemy hero and provides either a big pure mana pool, flat health, or both.

Also in regard to your thoughts on the skill build, I have alternative builds, there's three in total and if you navigated the guide, you'd actually see that. There are certain builds for certain situations. I'll explain why that particular skilling is what I choose for that specific build though. Echo Stomp is only interrupted by hero damage, therefore when you fight in the middle of a lane with creeps it allows them to take quite a few hits and up until mid game creeps actually do quite a bit of damage to a hero. The mana cost issue isn't a problem, its 15 extra mana per level, if that's a problem then you must be spamming the spell every time its off cooldown. You have an Urn and Arcane Boots, so you really shouldn't have any mana issues. To simply say not to skill something because your teammates won't coordinate with it is pretty irrelevant to comment on a guide. I provided a proper skill build and to change it to something improper because SOME people may be playing a low priority pub match is not something I'm going to do, its a How To guide something that is meant to be proper, not a guide to pubstomp.

This gave me a headache, anw Finally!!someone sees the power of blink tc!! i used to get so much flame when i didn't stomp with spirit alone,I like to blink behind my enemies and then ult. This is the exact skill build i go for! The valve build is sooo bad (like most of the others) imo Hood of Defiance as a core?
+9001

But you should ve added the item choice before posting the guide.

Thanks, and yeah the solo Echo is really a **** initiation. I just lost a game as Dark Seer with an Elder Titan because we had no good initiation for my wall to get off with a good vacuum.

There's a bunch of ways to initiate with the Blink. I personally prefer blinking from the front and Ancestral Spirit in the back, Echo Stomp, and then an ult.

What do you mean by "should've added the item choice before posting the guide"?
