Drow Ranger - Team Carry

Introduction

Good day all,

I made this guide for all my fellow Dota 2 players, in order to enlighten my undereducated players on techniques and suggestions on how to play a more advance way of one of my favorite characters Drow Ranger. In my guide you will notice I broke things a part in order to make the simple to understand. I apologize in advance if no one shares my same view but any and all comments will be deeply appreciated.

Very Respectively,
Ragzeal

Pros / Cons

Pro's

  • High Single Target Damage
  • Strong when Kiting
  • Provides Fight Utility
  • Snow Balls Very Easily

Cons
  • Easily Harmed
  • Crowd control affects severely diminishes strength
  • Severe disadvantage pre-lvl6

Team Work

I know I know tons of people always get Drow Ranger players who drive and drive about how good they are with a character but not one person I can safely say that I have met can truely say they appreciate this character until they get away from just the fact that there is more to her then just her high single target damage. Yes!, she doese provide a powerhouse to any team when it comes to sustained damage but she also provides many other unique gifts that I will explain.

[*] Early Game Play

From personal experience Drow Ranger can play great either on her own or solo in a Suicide Lane but because shes a high utility champion I prefer to stage her on any Duo Lane, ultimately the choice is yours. So I will briefly explain roles! With a couple tips.

Duo Lane -

Try to maintain last hitting as much as possible , because of your disadvantage pre-lvl6 its not wise to get flashy but thats not to say dont take advtantage of your enemies mistakes. It is always best to duo with a support character but in my experience having a heavy hitter is just as good. Take advantage of your own CC if your partner doesnt do so.

Common Mistakes To Take Advantage On

  • Overextending Enemies - Turn on your Cold and Harass , one of the best things for a Drow is an overachieving enemy who stretches too far out because they will find out they cant get back without suffering severe damage.
  • Melee Carries - Many times your enemies will choose to carry with a melee carry versus a ranged carry. Two things that favor you , one kiting is advantagous and many time you will see them out of place and two when they creep take advanatage and harass as much as you want. The objective is to delay there lvls and decrease there moral on there lane advantage.
  • Tower Dive - The double edge sword. Yes! people will tower drive you if your weak enough or there minds give enough confidence....but keep in mind that you still can turn this around. Because of your slow or silence you can quickly turn this to a one sided brawl circling your tower. Even if you dont survive , at lvl 1-12 it is highly unlikely you will die alone in a tower dive if you fight back correctly. ( TIP: Dont forget your magic wand. )

Suicide Lane

This can be a very disadvantageous position but it can prove useful in attaining a lvl advantage. Remember pre-lvl6 you wont really have a high damage to back you up , nor the aspd to give you the edge but you can easily result things into a stalemate until lane interference. I highly advise to remember those common mistakes listed above but also know never to go 70%. (REF: 70% in meaning passing the distance of 70% from your nearest tower to theres , in this part I am more referring to the distance where the enemy jungle begins)

[*] Mid to Late Game

Your primary objective is to secure lanes. One of the biggest advantage you have , especially if you followed my build is the ability to take out towers and to eliminate a single foe. Mask of Madness is a double edged item , preferably I use it just to take out towers but when used in combination with shadow blade , it can lay waste to a out of place foe. Use it sparingly and try not to use in a team fight unless CC has been laid down.

Team Fights

Your positioning should always be over and out. Be the last to enter and last to exit. Be mindful of your enemies positioning. (REF: Over and Out , always place yourself in a position not blocking exits of allies or enemies and never in a secluded spot.) Remember your not just an ADC also. Being Drow Ranger means you bring utility to a fight. When any fight is initiated try to follow with a silence to give you team the upper hand.

Skills

Frost Arrows

  • Doesnt stack with any orb effects. (TIP: If you turn off this skill you can continue to activate orb effects from items IE. Lifesteal.)
  • Consumes tons of mana if left on. (TIP: Toggle when last hitting)(TIP: Using my build and starting with magic wand can balance the affect of using it versus INT spec champions)
  • Primary kiting skill. (TIP: Remember my common mistakes when dealing with melee champions)

Silence
  • Bring Utility in Team fights. (TIP: Use early in fights to change tides easily.)
  • Advantageous versus any INT spec champion during early lvls. (TIP: Never stay in any longer than the duration and give time for escape.)
  • Can reveal invisible targets.
