Whisper in the Woods

Drow Rangers a fairly simple yet fun hero to play; a good starting point for those who want to learn to play hard carry, her ultimate Marksmanship allowing rapid acceleration in farming speed and dps in general.

Her signature move 'frost arrows' can potentially ruins your opponents evenings, and have people hating and hating. But at the end of the day it was really their fault for standing there in the first place.

As Drow is a rather squishy Hero an escape mechanism is pretty much a necessity; in saying that however rapid lifesteal from your DPS should not be underestimated.

Her agility gain; does however allow for some flexibility in building her, even without and dmg increasing items she packs a punch.

Hard Hard Carry Guide not a preying off mistakes Pubstomp guide. Designed for taking out hard farming high GPM hard carries late game. 4+1 Strat.

!Remember when playing Drow to always use as much of your range as you can as to not accidentally deactivate your ultimate!

Notes on build

This build is intended only for playing Drow as a hard carry.
You don't want to use this build if:
-Your team has no semi carry heroes... as they will get wrecked while your farming up.
-You don't have a 'babysitter'- someone who will selflessly protect you as you get all the last hits you can.
-Your team already has carrys. In that case perhaps a non-carry hero may be in order.
-Your muted. Lol

This can potentially go very well from a solo (non-mid) lane when played EXTREMELY safe =], as minimal cs and maximum EXP will get you to Lvl 6 and get you on your way in a flash.

I've written up a number of item builds, choice depending on the opposing team; remember to keep an eye on how they build and counter, counter, counter them.

The skill builds aren't particular to the items builds so mix and match it up!

Build 1
Standard Drow build - Glass Cannon with escape, melt with maxxxed
out attack speeds and extreme crit.

Build 2
Drow without lifesteal, spice up your day with orb effects!
Slower at farming but fun if you want to multitask with your modifiers.

Build 3
Strong strength buffed surivor drow. Very expensive items.
The combination of a fat HP pool and crazy lifesteal makes
blademail a viable option in combination with satanic...
Killah

Build 4
combination of straight up menace and surivability. Skilled to maximise farming and provide the strong global buff; bolstered by fast Power Treads. Simple and effective build however expensive it may be. Again activating blade mail and satanic simultaneously is a the ace in the hole, reducing enemy carries to rubble.

While building mask of madness on Drow Ranger is criticised IMO its potential as a farming aid and its movement speed bonus make it a very viable option. With a Shadow blade activated immediately after mask of madness haste movement speed is achived (522).
Good for when you need to outcarry that Anti-Mage. Careful using it in team fights though as it will get you killed through its DMG amplification.
With the increased farming speed a Mask of Madness can easily pay for itself

Skills

Frost Arrows

Adds a freezing effect to Drow's attacks, slowing enemy movement. Lasts 1.5 seconds on Heroes, and 7 seconds on creeps.
Range: 625
Duration: 1.5 (7 on creeps)
Movement Speed Slow: 11%/24%/37%/60%

When you have a high attack speed you'll be tempted to just leave this one on all the time. Try not to as it will BURN your mana faster then Anti-Mage ever could =]

Silence

Stops all enemy units in a target area from casting spells.
Range: 900
Radius: 300
Duration: 3/4/5/6

Precision Aura

Adds bonus damage to the physical attack of allied Hero units on the map based on a percentage of Drow's agility. Affects creeps as well, but only in a short radius.
Radius: Global (Heroes)/900 (Creeps)
Agility to Damage Bonus: 16%/20%/24%/28%

Marksmanship

Passively provides bonus agility. If there are nearby enemy heroes, the bonus agility is removed.
Agility Bonus: 40/60/80
Bonus Radius: 375

!Remember when playing Drow to always use as much of your range as you can as to not accidentally deactivate your ultimate!

Playing it Hard

Early On

Okay. Straight up you need a babysitter. That or a solo lane and if you go solo you need the safe lane for that lane control. Do not go mid; as other heroes could use it for kills and basically put it to much more use. If you do end up soloing the safe lane play it as safe as you possibly can. If your against a solo opponent due to a tri-lane or jungler; thats awesome.

Your goal as a Hard carry in the early game is to not die. Plain and simple.
Forget trying early kills unless it is very safe, you'll get yours later on.
Focus on cs; denying only if your not going to miss that sweet creep gold.
If they get to close throw a few frost arrows as a deterant. No point wasting a full mana pool. Remember also to use your frost arrows to slow incoming creep waves if their likely to fall under the tower otherwise and mess up the lane momentum.

Alternately if your on the radiant side and are confident at farm the ancients at Lvl 1 with a quelling blade and ward, onya bike. If you want to attempt this practice in a bot game. Youtube will aid you with which trees to cut. This isnt the most efficient way to farm up but it does allow for a solo lane of an ally, all goes well and that EXP will help your team as you farm up and up

Laning Phase is Ending

Once you have your laning goals consider the jungle, another hero who cant jungle as well would definitely appreciate the farm. If so defensive wards are a must. If your in a pub game and your supports are cheapo or broke consider dropping the 150 on a pair. You'll make it back quickly and it's much better then dying.

Take the ancients as soon as you can and make quick rotations, basically get to that Olympic farming, quicker your out there the more likely you'll win.

If:
You team is in trouble or looks like it will be soon. Lend a hand; out farming 5 is not strategically viable =]. Hopefully such a situation will be foreseen and you'll be able to finish a solid defensive/escape item such as shadow blade or bkb before crunch time.

Your farm is going extremely well and your enemies look undernourished and feeble, switch from farming neutrals to heroes. Remember in a 4+1 strat 2 fed carries can out carry you in the late game, make the felling blow when you can, be careful not to farm your team into the ground.

You see a tempting target make sure its safe. Dying is still not on the menu for you.

Criticism on Drow

Alright now a LOT of people hate on Drow Ranger. When in the right hands and not countered she is deadly. Take no notice of haters. If Drow actually was completely overpowered then why isn't she picked up often in competitive? Drow is easily shutdown, countered, is squishy and lacks natural escape or defense. Whingers gonna whinge. If you get to a ridiculously powerful stage and people start whining... well at the end of the day it's their fault for not doing something about you before you got to be that powerful.

Remember though to only pick in the right circumstances:
-Co-operative team
-Babysitter preferable
-Not if your muted.... lol
-Not against Phantom Assassin unless you want to fear for your life
-Not when you team is overpopulated with carries/heroes that need a bunch of farm to be effective

Fin

Thanks for reading,

IMO Drow is a fun hero because of many ways you can
build her; Marksmanship taking care of building
up immense stats.

Anyways GG
