New Gameplay Update


April 25, 2016 - Dota Team



After an eventful and competitive wintertide season, Dota 2 welcomes the advance of spring’s renewal as this week’s patch brings the release of the 6.87 gameplay update. With changes to Ranked All Pick, the addition of a minimap Scan ability, new items, and a host of other balance adjustments, there’s a lot to explore in the 6.87 change log.



After reading through the patch notes, head over to the Test client to try the changes out before it hits the main client in a day or two.

Along with the update, this week will also see the start of The Manila Major Qualifiers, with Chinese Open Qualifiers hosted by ESL and the Americas, Southeast Asia and Europe Open Qualifiers hosted by Faceit running April 29th – May 2nd and Regional Qualifiers following May 3rd – 6th.


UPDATE HIGHLIGHTS



Reworked Ranked All Pick. Before the picking phase begins, there is a 15 second voting phase to ban heroes. Each player votes for a different hero. Afterwards, half of the heroes that were voted on will be randomly selected and banned.

Such a weird patch. Almost OSFrog like.

We almost get our wishes for bans in ranked all pick... buuuut it's random. So that sucks. Hopefully that gets changed quickly.

Starting HP increase means early burst heroes are a tiny bit worse. Not much, but every little ads up. Starting mana increase on the otherhand will help a tonne of heroes. But I don't like it, since it kinda mitigates mana management skills. Not by much, but still.

Scan is weird as hell. And I really don't like it. But we will see.

Bounty rune nerfs, creep aggro and tower armour aura kinda implies a little less fighting early, and the increase to creep gold ticks also implies ricing might be a little better now. So we might get a little more meta divesity. I doubt it.

So many minor items now. One the one hand, support got an amazing amount of QoL buffs between cheaper stuff and such. On the other - I don't want a cheap item that reduces armour on auto attack. What did offlaners do to deserve this? (Since it's in the side shop, so a support buys it and zones more easily).

Speaking of items; Echo Saber sounds great on Spirit Breaker or like mid-game PA builds. Orchid upgrade kinda makes the base item a tonne more viable now on QoP or Storm who already loved Right clicks. Bloodstone buffs means SS is probably back a little (Dat ags)

Silver Edge is far too good with this new build up. It gives Linken's levels stats with a solid build-up, and great effects.

Hurricane Pike is bizzare. Nice for supports, semi-decent for ranged heroes. And makes Dragon Lance super versatile (Can disasemble in BKB butterfly build up, or build into this).

Abyssal Blade got buffed for Bristleback, and nerfed to **** for everyone else. Except initating melee heroes like Void or SB.

All of the Ag's upgrades are silly.

I have no idea what's going to be OP from this patch. Nothing stands out that much.

I'll wait to see the effects, but I'm kinda apprehensive about the patch directions now.

Since you just can't have enough Chaos Breaker.

Serious changes...and I for one welcome our new nuke throwing overlords.

Aghs:

Storm Spirit - can now initiate with an AOE stun
Mirana - great pushing/farming power
Gyrocopter - need to see how this works out, but seems to help his carrying/farming
Earthshaker - no longer necessarily needs a blink
Bloodseeker - moves even further towards and out and out kiter/nuker
Oracle - mega heals
Skywrath Mage - jeezus titty licking 12 second super nuke
Winter Wyvern - useful but hmm

The damage scalin due to INT is really minor it is worth saying.

Most heroes will only get like an Aether Lens out of it without any items. So it doesn't affect things too much.

Still it's another step down a strange road.

Since you just can't have enough Chaos Breaker.

Dota is a strange game and with this patch it became even stranger.

However Morphling seems really nice if you have another rightclicker in your team.
Nyx Assassin got inderectly nerfed with the strenght and int changes
Phantom Assassin seems to have a really strong stiffling dagger now
Troll Warlord attacks faster but I don't think that this increases his total dps that much more.
terroblade **** physical damage
Spectre, agi hero with 1.8 agi gain, really nice
Invoker rest in hell for a long time, the forge spirit changes are really good
outworld devourer is probably still playable, I will have to check it but it seems that he isn't nerfed into ****.
Crystal Nova cooldown lowered, which is really nice, but maxing Arcane Aura may be viable :(
Dragon Knight, Morphling, Juggernaut, Luna, Mirana and maybe Phantom Assassin, since the new dagger can when maxed do a ****load of damage, seem to me really strong in this patch.
Those new items seems all one by one really interesting.

Ranked Rework: Cool, meta heroes won’t ruin ranked as easily.
Scan: Smoke has a counter now.
Int now gives 1% bonus for 16 Int points for spell damage. OD might actually be a late game carry, as might Charles.
Tower Armor Aura: Turtle meta is back?
Tower true sight range reduced: Slark Meta is here!
Melee hero attack range up to 150: Dammit, Doom isn’t special anymore, now its just Tiny.
Aggro up to 2.5 seconds, harassing is a little bit more punishing, yay for offlane life.
Ranged creeps now give a ton more XP. Sorry Lion, I’m killing that thing, I don’t care if you’re mana draining it.
2 Centaur Coursers in Large centaur camp: Screw you stackers, even harder this time.
Illusions get damage block, Jungle Terrorblade suddenly more viable.
Captain’s mode changes: I’m way too disconnected to figure this out.
Roshan takes a lot less damage from your summons. Sorry NP, Veno, and Lycan.
Troll Summoner and Thunderhides now deal a bunch more damage to heroes and buildings, except not really.
Harpy and Big Saytr mana pool nerfed: Screw you Chen!

Terrain: I need to see, can’t comprehend this.

ITEMS!
Bloodthorn: 50% uptime silence? Well, here comes carry Silencer, and another buff to OD’s late game. Also, something that might bring back QoP and Storm. Might, though this item is hella expensive.
Echo Sabre: Melee headshots mode! We all have Caustic finale now. Seems good on Axe honestly, any melee hero who can’t chase people.
Blight Stone: Enemy VS has this, and now you cry whenever she harasses you. Prospect of WD, Silencer, or Lion with this is also rather frightening for offlane players.
Infused Raindrops: These consumables are getting weirdly abstract, but I guess they introduced fire last time, so now they have to run with the elements. Anyway, very nice if some nuker is trying to kill you, if it becomes popular, this will dissuade mid ganking even more than in this patch.
Wind Lace: Oh, another Boot, how fun. Now CM and Techies can have 300 movespeed in laning phase. It’s nice to separate the stats though, since drum and euls just make the MS outta nowhere.
Tome of Knowledge: I guess for emergencies when you really need level 11. Or if you wanna stack your Invoker.
Hurricane Pike: A combination of those items we use to kite people is now a SUPER KITING item.
Skull Basher + Abyssal: Oh damn, we’re not a carry item anymore, we’re now a Position 3 tank item. Abyssal Centaur, Bristle, and Axe will be a thing.
Aether Lens: With new Int mechanics, sure.
Armlet: CK buff? CK buff. Also Huskar I guess.
Blade Mail: Oh cool, even more useful. All it needs now is an upgrade. Screw you PA!
Bloodstone: Leshrac and Storm are now suddenly playable.
Diffusal: Screw you PL, here is a Riki buff!
Dragon Lance: Oh, a mini sange yasha now. With Hurricane Pike, we got a better kiting item in lieu of SnY.
Flying Courier: Support life is easy!
Gem: Slark Age is coming
Ghost Scepter: Screw you Ursa.
Heart: Is that another CK buff? Oh man.
Linkens: Non-BKB carries getting more viable.
Lotus Orb: Wow, what a massive buff to an item I already like.
MoM: Ohh, is Sven, Sniper, and Jugger gonna pick this up again?
Observers: Cheaper, more gold, less exp.
Octarine: Noo! Actually, this is fine.
Pipe: Mass barrier time? Cry more Zeus!
Basi/Aquila: A better starting item, better for hitting, worse for hitting.

Atos: I think this is the first nerf I’ve ever seen on the item.
SnY: I don’t think Icefrog wants you to buy this on ranged heroes.
Silver Edge: Damn, this item actually gives good stats now.
Veil: No more massive Int for you.

Heroes:
Abaddon: Curse of Avernus might actually be worth a value point now.
Arc Warden: Look, an actual well rounded hero now.
Axe: Oh man, Axe’s damage is less stupidly low past minute 10.
Bloodseeker: Now BS can actually cast his ult.
BH: Roaming BH, no longer as easy a win for you!
Brew: Primal Splits finally do some damage to heroes…. And buildings.
Chen: Ohh, brutal falling off now.
CM: More annoying spell casts.
DP: Her one OP skill is no longer OP.
DK: Seems nice, dunno if he’s gonna be playable mid, because I always hope, but meta mids always kill him.
Drow: Oh my goodness, this skill is actually powerful.
Earth Spirit: That nerf seems pretty severe, since you can actually dodge boulder smash now.
Earthshaker: HOP TO VICTORY! I guess SK got one, might as give one to him, except with his massive cast point.
Elder Titan: Radiance will no longer ruin your time.
Enchantress: The barrage of late game untouchable turret is less scary now.
Faceless Void: Faceless Void needs no Chronosphere! He is a strong independent purple guy.
Gyrocopter: There’s no way this isn’t gonna look ridiculous.
Huskar: Armlet buff, attack speed buff? Is Dazzle Huskar back?
Invoker: The Frog seems to be showing restraint, that INT nerf tho, finally, its risky to run Invoker mid again.
Jakiro: Is Jakiro actually good at pushing now? Instead of just being “good only on paper”?
Keeper of Light: I CAN poke and Stack EVEN BETTER NOW!
Kunkka: That torrent stun duration from 1.53 to 1.6, that’s massive. Also, I guess the 2 armor too.. but who cares about that?
LC: We’re still gonna see the exact same number of LCs in this game.
Lich: Sacrificing ranged creeps for massive exp. The Lich is back!
Lifestealer: No more dealing with LS taking your tower at minute 8, being completely helpless.
Magnus: Mid buffed a bit. Yay, I like Mid Magnus.
Meepo: Now Meepo can finally beat SK, Winter Wyvern, and Enigma.
Mirana: This is one of the silliest things I’ve ever read.
Morphling: Huh, Morphling synergy drafts are coming.
Naga Siren: Such massive heals, so massive splitpush. Or something?
NP: Stupid expendable treants getting blinder each generation.
Necrophos: Oh man, Necro might actually be able to kill someone with his level 1 scythe. His playing from being just got a lot worse.
Nyx: “I AM THE PRIDE OF NYX, I HAVE HIGHER REGEN THAN AXE!”
Omniknight: Honestly, with his mana being less of an issue than 4 patches , he needed to lose something.
Oracle: Wow, I can actually deal/heal a ton of damage.
OD: No more value point in Imprisonment, and now you have to hit heroes in order to sustain the cost of the orb. On the plus side, your late game is totally insane now.
PA: Oh, a ranged attack every 6 seconds. Get that annoying Echo Saber and slow people more.
Phoenix: More safeguards for that risk!
Puck: I have no idea what that means!
Pugna: Still his bugs are unfixed. So sad.
Riki: The guy just got annoying, at least diffusal cooldown got nerfed tho.
Rubick: Value point in Null Field is viable now, and Fade Bold actually does the damage of a nuke.
SK: Oh, level 1 jungling on SK is viable again. I probably still would not recommend.
SD: This guy’s late game is getting more and more crazy.
SF: Ult explosions time!
Silencer: AOE slows, less massive damage, but new INT items favor him. Carry Silencer will be in.
Skywrath: Oh, giant visible mines that do 5800 damage if you stand in them.
Spectre: Please be less of a pub scourge.
Storm: Storm now has a black hole, on the plus side, he can teamfight now as an option.
Terrorblade: WE 10 ARMOR NOW. Offlane Terrorblade will be a thing!? Probably not.
Timbersaw: Man, this guy scales really really well with levels now.
Tinker: Might actually need to pick Nyx against him now.
Treant: To be fair, a giant sneaking tree should be easy to find.
Tusk: Surely, people will buy aghs on Tusk.
Undying: Naga, TB, and friends can now counterpick the Dirge.
Viper: Skadi Viper meta!
Visage: No more getting super wrecked by Veno. Maybe.
Weaver: Did this guy just get harder to kill? Especially with the Linkens buff.
Winter Wyvern: Carry Wyvern was born this day.
WK: FARM FARM FARM, KILL THOSE PUNY MORTALS!
Zeus: The God of Heaven is sad.
