Spamming bots

Well, the thing is, devs mostly focus on new -Fire-sites (VaingloryFire, HOTSFIRE) and MobaFire - and the focus on MobaFire is more about keeping it relevant and somewhat up-to-date instead of adding all the new features. DotaFire hasn't really gotten any love in that department (e.g. the subscription system) but is getting the features soon™. I understand this, though. The devs are really busy and there are so many sites to take care of and many bugs to fix and new features to make but only a handful of diligent devs.

Hades said that there is a blacklist and it's global across all sites, so that's one point for DotaFire!

Halo. Too much spam to even report!!

They have taken our feed by storm.

It's not just ads, now the BoTs are spamming for days and filling up our entire front 5 pages. Mods pls, I beg you do something

All the spam has been removed, I always take care of it as soon as I can.

Blacklisted their content, hopefully they won't come back.

Hey guys, just some quick responses to things brought up.

1. We already have a captcha for registration, we've put this in a while ago

2. Yes, we have tried IP banning. However, it tends to hit innocent users and we have to remove it. :/

3. Yes, we have spam prevention features that any of our admins can use. I've just updated the blacklist now, so that should help, and I will be advising the other admins on how to keep it updated properly since some of them didn't seem to realize they could update it themselves. :P This will help since it's network-wide, if one admin updates it on one site it helps prevent that kind of spam on all sites. :) It pretty much works how Dimonychan described. So, I think part of the problem here is that it wasn't being kept up to date properly and that's why you've been seeing some repeat spam. Ideally, once one kind of spam hits it will be blacklisted and never be seen again. However, some bots can be pretty trixy so that doesn't always happen.

4. Big shoutout to the Moderators for helping keep the spam at bay, you guys rock! :) The Community Staff will always deal with spam ASAP, they just seem to strike while we sleep. :P We will continue to work with the Moderation team so we can get as quick of a response as possible when spam strikes!

5. Thank you all for your patience! We know spam is really annoying for anybody trying to use the forums, and the forums are the lifeblood of DOTAFire. Hopefully you should see an improvement after this, because we'll be reviewing and readdressing spam prevention procedure.

Also, I think this thread should get moved to the Support forum. Heads up in case you go looking for it and it's not in here, it's probably been moved to the Support forum. :P
