Halp (weird help): do any of you know any specific place where I can see the correct timings for getting items during a game? I mean, if I go to a specific guide for a hero maybe it's good enough to have the item and hero timings, but maybe some of you know an official place with this kind of info.

So you will never consider radiance on a support naga 50 minutes into the game where your team has a huge advantage in terms of structures and gold but the enemy got a solid high ground defense?

Is this what you are looking for? Also. Or did I misunderstood the question?

Thanks mates, it isn't exactly this, but it's my fault. I wasn't clear because I don't know exactly how to explain this, but Kyphoid is close: I mean, let's see through an example, if you're a Slardar, what is your normal/prefferred timing to get a Blink Dagger - which is the general normal time/soon/late? I need to learn what are the general timings for items to understand how to farm/play core better.

The way I do it when I want to know, I just go to the lobby and hit creeps 'till I get the needed item or bunch of items. The result is unrealistic, ofc, because I always get a rune and some uncontested towers, but I take it as a point zero and count from it. I'd say that for most early(pre-20 min) items and builds, you can add about 25% of the time you were farming this networth and get your normal timing. Later it can change because your ability to farm grows and your enemies' ability to deny your farm usually drops.

Like, if I got Boots+Basi+Bloodstone 12 mins in, I add 25% and get 15 minutes which is about normal timing.

Then again, your item timings sway really A LOT depending in the game even on pos1 heroes so that's not very useful. Your farming skill only helps so much when you have three heroes camping mid or rapesquad roaming your jungle like they're at home. The only exception is probably LC/Axe jungle since they usually just AFK-farm until they get Blink and rarely anybody below 5k bothers to disturb them.

Thanks a lot Dimony, that seems like a good idea to start with! So my timing + around 25%. I was trying to avoid spending too much practise time in lobbies because I don't have it to play, but that's unavoidable I guess :)

Meanwhile I also got the dotabuff plus thingy that also helps with timings, so I analyse my games more in depth.

Essentially, this. Peronally I never bothered about asking about item timings because they're really not on you if you're playing core. They're determined by factors completely beyond your control : who are you laning against, are your supports any good besides just leeching XP or even worse AFK pulling when your lane is already pulled, is the enemy team 5-manning your *** all early game, etc.

If you ask people stuff like when should you get your battlefury on antimage, there's always going to be those guys who want to show off by saying "good players get 14 minute bfury every game", when the harsh truth is that it completely depends on your lane and you commonly see pro players get 27 minute bfuries on stream.

For me the right question is more like what should you do as a core player if you get a ****py lane and no support, not what's the timing for your items.

Like learn aggro tricks to get the creeps towards you when laning against ranged heroes, learn to use the 24 second hard camp pull to get additional farm, know when you should straight up leave your safe lane and go farm another lane instead, etc.

If something, knowing the item timings of cores will make you a better support player. Because you know that your Naga needs 15 minutes of AFK farm to get her radiance and you need to watch her back when she's got 3K gold in the bank. But I really don't think it'll make you a better core player. What will make you a better core player is knowing how to farm efficiently, and without help : e.g optimizing farming lane and jungle at the same time by pushing out the lane and then stacking jungle or pulling hard camp, etc.

Learn to make cash fast even when contested, and the item timings will take care of themselves. That's my advice.

I totally agree. My point was only to understand some type of goal in farming, so I can know what to work towards; for instance, regardless of those circumstances you pointed out, I should have a Shadow Blade on Slark by all means at 20 min, which is something I didn't know and I still haven't achieved. Or let's say it's not a good idea to go Sange and Yasha on him past 40 min, because the item isn't worth it anymore. Stuff like this helps out a bit, but ofc items timings mean nothing on their own.

You said some important stuff: "Like learn aggro tricks to get the creeps towards you when laning against ranged heroes, learn to use the 24 second hard camp pull to get additional farm, know when you should straight up leave your safe lane and go farm another lane instead, etc.". Any additional tips on these?

I have been having a lot of fun playing core, but I suck *** still, and the fact that I can't play more than around 3 or 4 games per week hurts. I have to turn around completely my game mentality (not run into fights to sacrifice for other people, etc), and that's the hardest thing for me to do so far - along with farming. Arg hitting creeps is so annoying...
